Best Polish or Wax for a Black Vehicle

There are a lot of products out on the market that are sure to satifiy what you are looking for. Yes, some are better then others and yes, there is a huge difference in a standard carnauba wax and a high end paint sealant. Most of your basic standard store bought waxes are straight carnauba and really don't offer a whole lot of protection. If your willing to wax your car once a week then carnauba is a fine choice but most definitely a lot of unnecessary work. Paint sealants are made up of Polymers and Resins thus creating a strong bond to the painted surface. Paint sealants are by far the longest lasting protection you can buy. However, there are a lot of new, blended wax products on the market that are also a very good choice in protection. I would suggest using HD POXY as an easy on easy off very easy to use by hand product. Its also a product that, if you let it have 30 to 45 minutes of time to cure after application before you wipe it off, will offer you what your are looking for in great protection. Hope all this info helps and a lot of the guys here had some great advise for you. Good luck...

I'm not sure its fair to say that sealants offer more protection than carnauba wax. Sealants are certainly more durable, but wax offers protection that even coatings can't match.

I'd polish it swirl free then Opti-Coat it. With 5 months of winter, that's the route I'd take. Then use how your truck looks to upsell wax/sealant jobs to Opti-Coat.

In the warmer months, you can put a beauty wax on it, which gives you another opportunity to upsell a more expensive wax.

Otherwise, I agree with Paul, HD Poxy or Clearkote Carnauba Moose if you want to keep it simple.

See thats what i thought but the dealer advised against it. I can't see letting a new vehicle go without protection. I know what I'm doing this weekend.

The dealer is the last person in the world to get detailing advice from. Many of them will either try to sell you a sealant package for $$$$ or claim that because a car has a clear coat on it, you never need to wax it.

I won't even say that "sealants are more durable", at least not categorically; I have waxes on some of my vehicles and sealants on others, and some of the waxes outlast some of the sealants by *months*.

Heh heh, note all the qualifiers (i.e., "some") in the above ;) You really can't generalize all that much about this stuff.
