Best OTC Tire Cleaner?

That's really strange that you guys aren't getting a very good cleaning from Megs APC mixed 4:1. I'll have to take pics of the APC in action next time. On really dirty tires, I'm getting the same type of "run-off" as pictured below after I spray it on. I usually do 2-4 applications to make sure the tires are VERY clean. The Accord I did last week turned out fantastic....I honestly could have gotten away without dressing the tires because they were so black from the initial cleaning. I ended up dressing them with Opti-Bond.

E1 A2Z for over the counter. My Meguiars APC 4:1 doesn't seem to clean as well as the A2Z. I would think if you want to deep clean you might need something stronger than APC such as Meguiars DG, or A2Z.

Here is A2Z in action.

I have been just starting to use a product called Tuf Shine. Their wheel cleaner really takes off all the silicone and grime. The cleaner is a prep for their tire shine.

Cheers,

I'll give the Meg's APC 4:1 a shot sometime soon Casey as I have some in my detailing cabinet. I'm really interested in how it'll compare to ARO and EO A2Z. I think I'll have to pick up some more EO A2Z (eek it's expensive!) to do some comparisons. If I can get Meg's APC to do just as well of a job as EO A2Z, I'll be ridiculously happy. :grinno: Meg's APC is much cheaper than EO A2Z!

Please do that. I'll be curious to hear your feedback, since you will have used all three products. Like I said, I typically do 2-4 applications, which in the end, may reduce its cost effectiveness. Keep me posted.

Another Eagle One fan, They also have an "aluminum wash" that is PH neutral that works well with a little agitation. They have both worked well for me.

Planning to pick up some E1 A2Z. What do you all recommend, aerosol or spray bottle?

i use both, but the trigger style bottle is easier to spray into the wells, etc...

I'd be interested in the results as well. I'm finding that Megs APC is an ultra versatile product. I even did a test on rims the other day. I sprayed APC 4:1 on one rim and P21s/S100 wheel gel on another. Both were allowed to sit for 10 minutes and then I cleaned with a soft brush. Results were very similar, with the advantage to the wheel gel for longer dwell times...if I only knew how to make a gel out of the APC, muahaha.

Picked up a 26 oz bottle of A2Z today at Advance Auto Parts today when I was there. I should be using it later this week probably and I will let u know what I think.

My previous method of tire washing involved dawn and water.

After reading this thread purchased A2Z product.

Could not tell a great deal of difference. The wheels were still in need of attention, but the tires looked better, as well as, the lettering.

Will not purchase product again. Average at best.

I will be doing a full detail in the coming week, and will do a scenario where I clean my front tires with Eagle One, and back with Megs APC cut 4:1. I will post the results here.

Great my bro!!!!! :grinno:

What's the deal with that Eagle One spray? I've purchased some and tried it on both my car and my girlfriends. I thought the "brown foam" was just some sort of colour-change to make you think its working.

Is it really dirt or something coming out of the tires?

Couldn't be any more wrong. Try it out. Take a clean tire and spray it on, and take a dirty tire and spray it on. The foam will stay white on the clean tire, and brown on the dirty one.

I recently purchase Eagle One A2Z Wheel and Tire Cleaner. I used this product on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer as directed. Spray evenly on cool dry tire, left the product on for 30 seconds, spray off with water and dry immediatley. It worked very well at cleaning the tire and much of the brake dust.

Unfortunately, it changed the paint color of the Chevy logo on the plastic lug nut cover from black to gold AND left a white haze with streaks on the OEM rims which I believe are coated.

I spoke to an Eagle One rep...he probably said that the tire was not cool enough and that I could take the product back and get a full refund.:nixweiss

Any suggestions how to get rid of this haze. I went to a local AutoZone, he suggested using this Mothers Chrome/Aluminum polish. After reading the directions, I realized this product is contra-indicated on coated rims.

I have Nu Finish Car Polish, do you think this may help or hurt my rim. Any suggestions for an over-the-counter product?

By the way, if I can get these rims to look any better...I will try this product again early in the morning ( vs. evening ) when the tires have had no time to heat up..COOL, mybe thats the secret.

Thanks-Mike

I find a mix of 50/50 full strength simple green and dishwashing soap works really well. The dishwashing soap makes a foam which lets the simple green stay on longer instead of running off. I use a soft wheel brush and dirt and greasey messes like clear oily tire dressing just comes right off.

^^

Eagle One is harsh on plastic. I didnt like it. A bottle doesnt last long and it dulled my wifes clearcoat wheels.

The same as above plus a srubbing brush for the tyres
