Best method for cloth wheel wells?

Whats the best way to get those cloth-like wheel wells clean that ford loves to use. The stuff really just attracts dirt to it and just about any kind of dressing seems to make the problem 10x worse if you drive for more than a day.



What would be the best way to clean these be? I want to avoid any harsh cleaners if possible. And anyone know a good dressing that would be usable in this situation?
 
You're only choice is to use a apc and blast it off with a pressure washer. And if you're having an issue with them fading. Take them out and get some black cotton dye and dye them. As far as dressing goes, i find its just a waste of time it makes no difference.

I would not suggest painting them, they are a matted like cloth not smooth plastic and I highly dought the paint will stick, let alone you may get overspray on the car, rims and tires....



I know what the poster is talking about, they put them in a lot of Mercedes Benz cars these days too. They trap a lot of twigs and junk in them and are hard to clean.



I just clean them with a brush like I would any other wheel wells and don't dress them.

I haven't had any complaints....
 
I agreed with Josh, just wash them with a brush and let it go from there. I found out the hard way awhile back on a MB.................:usa

Has anyone else tried this? After 3 years they are fading quite a bit and it really takes away from the look of the car, and that doesn't sound like a bad idea.
 
My Focus has "cloth" wheel wells on the rear wheels. It is felt, and I don't know what it is made of. I've read on this site that it is for sound deadening.



Following the advice of fellow Autopians (this was brought up a year or so ago), I will hose them out, I will hit them with the wand wash at the coin-op during the winter, and I will hit them with the foam gun and let it dwell before I spray it out during the summer. I do not use a brush, as some have opined that it "fuzzes up" the wheel well.



Just my two pennies. Your wheel well may be different. BTW, mine have not faded in 2.5 years.

Exactly, what I would say. Scrub and blast them off the best you can. I run into this a lot with a TL that frequents me.

My Inifniti has carpet in the rear wheel wells. I DEFINITELY wouldn't recommend painting them or spraying them down with any coating. I spray the heck out of mine with a pressure washer to get all the junk out and then that's about all you can do.
 
When I had my Mercedes, I just had Stanley Steamer do them every once in a while.













okay...just kidding. :) Just stick a hose nozzle up there best you can and blast them. This time of year, with wet leaves, is the worst.
