Best Meguiar's Products to Stock My Garage

Laurel

Yes, I drive a wagon
Let's just say that I can easily get my hands on pretty much every product that Meguiar's makes. Professional and regular retail products alike. We often have friends over doing mods and detailing cars and whatnot, and want the garage well-stocked with the best, and due to my situation with Meguiar's, I figured I'd ask you fine people what to purchase. I'm looking to fully stock the garage. I'm looking for a comprehensive evaluation of the Megs products. I'm also open to another brand alternative, but only if they give a marked improvement to the Meguiar's products.

I tried a search, there's just too much information on meguiars products to find anything useful in any kind of timely manner.

Thanks in advance!

Are you using machine (PC, Cyclo, rotary) or doing most of this stuff by hand??

I don't use a lot of Meg's products now, and even when I did it was OTC stuff. I really do like ColorX and have gotten some good results by hand with ScratchX. I would say those two would be good to have on hand in case some of your friends don't know how to handle a machine polisher.

I've been doing everything by hand, but was thinking of picking up a pc or something to make the job easier on myself

If you want to go with Meguiar's I can give you a little list of what you may want to look into. To use some of these, I highly suggest getting a PC first and foremost.

#83 - removes light to medium swirls, oxidation, light blemishes
#80 - removes marring left by #83 and improves depth and gloss of finish
NXT - Synthetic sealant, decent durability for me, varies by application
#26 - Great for darker colors such as red or black
Plastx - good plastic cleaner and polish
APC - Very powerful all purpose cleaner
#38 - good for tires and exterior trim
Hyper Dressing - good interior dressing and exterior dressing, can dilute to cut the shine
NXT car wash - among the best OTC washes
#34 - Meg's best detail spray
#40 & 39 - Good rubber and vinyl cleaners
Scratchx - good scratch remover by hand

That's a start, I'll let some others add to this. Don't limit yourself to Meg's though, Poorboy's, 4*, Adams, and Clearkote all have some fine products as well.

I would chose #83Dacp, 80Speed Glaze, 38 Trim and Tire gell, 40 Vinyl&Rubber, Detailer APC, and 20 or NXT for LSP. I like all there LSPs but those are my fav from them.

You're very lucky. Meguiar's products are awesome. Even though I have an array of 'weapons' in my arsenal, a lot of them are Megs. Some of them I really like are:

NXT Car Wash
NXT All Metal Polysh
#7 Show Car Glaze
#80 Speed Glaze
#83 DACP

I also know that a lot of people use NXT wax, #26 and the foam pads. Can't go wrong with Megs!!!

I agree with all of the posters above. As travisdecpn mentioned you have lots of good options from a number of good vendors. But since you have local access to Meguiar's products and that is your question...

O #83 - It dusts a bit, and I wouldn't want to do and entire vehicle by hand, but for moderate swirl removal you need this product. I haven't experienced the hazing issues that some have.
O #80 - If you have hazing left over from #83, this should be a nice follow-up. It also provides a very nice gloss finish for the base of your LSP.
O #40 - Good product, doesn't smell great.
O NXT (liquid) - I like the look this gives the darker paints. Very easy to use. Durability is going to be debated.
O NXT wash - Againk I agree with travisdecpn's assessment. One of the best OTC washes. A great value and I would put it head to head with many of the boutique washes as well.

Both cars were detailed using #83, #80 combo...The Blue Elantra had terrible acid rain spots (luckily not yet etched) which the #80 Speed Glaze took out wonderfully with a rotory with a yellow Meg's polishing pad. It was topped with NXT. The Jag has Megs #7 GLaze followed by S100 topper.

(The Elantra pic. was taken at the parking lot of Meguiar's during a weekend session.)

Hope this helps......
