Best light to veiw swirls?

Thanks for the advice everybody. Most of the lights recommended would not be available for use in my garage. I guess I'll have to stick with the flourescents and halogen.

Here is my car. I'm in the process of prepping it for the perfect shine:

I love IS300s! And don't worry, I don't want to have a meet before April anyway. March is the soonest I'd have my summer wheels on and be willing to do a full detail. We'll see when spring comes...since winter hasn't really arrived yet. :nixweiss:

???

Sure there's a reduced chance of skin cancer and aging of the retina if you use an artificial light rather than sunlight. I fail to see though, how this "full spectrum" light could be any more safe than any other artificial light. Skin cancer and retina damage is caused by cells being destroyed/altered by ultraviolet radiation, not light photons of a certain type.

"NLPIP reviewed the promotional claims for full-spectrum light sources from manufacturer and retailer web sites, and found a diversity of claimed benefits, including:

Reduces incidence of dental decay"

I've tossed out my $0.02 on swirl-spotting lights on enough other threads that I'll spare you a rehash. But full-spectrum light doesn't guarantee good swirl-spotting in my experience.

I've had plenty of opportunities to check this out while doing stuff in full-spectrum lighting and it didn't seem to be anything special with regard to spotting marring. E.G., I've inspected black lacquer under the full-spectrum lights in art galleries- not as good as my cheap, high-wattage incandescent trouble light by a long shot.

I just tried a LED head light from Eddie Bauer and it works great. I put it on my head and looked over the car and could see the swirls much better than just under my garage flourescents. Here is what it looks like:
