Best Light For Seeing Defects

I know a lot of guys/gals on this board use halogens for seeing defects clearly. My car was "detailed" awhile ago by a shop who work in conjunction with a local body shop (I had some body work and a re-spray done).

Long story short, these guys (the so-called detailers) left all kinds of holograms/buffer trails in the black paint. :angry I saw the car in the detailing bay, after the work was completed, under halogens and it looked fine. The next day, in the sunlight, I saw the mess these folks made.

So, are halogens really the "best" for seeing defects? My experience suggests bright sunlight is the best. Am I missing something? :nervous:

Im not sure they are the 'best' but I would say halogens are good enough. If you can't see it under a direct halogen light, you sure as hell aren't going to see it when your cruising down the street.

Some have suggested the Brinkman. I don't know which model or what kind but they say brinkman will show some things halogens wont.

What i find to be pretty useful is an l.e.d. wand. Great for catching streaks on windows however; i'm not sure it would be the best choice for main light.

I agree with Sun. Halogen's are great for while you are working, but a final look in the sun sometimes shows something I might have missed.
