Best combos for Silver Metallic Paint

I am extremely impressed with AIO+SG+Nattys:

Cannot see it in the pictures because of my angles and lighting but the metallic flakes really stand out.

With my silver tacoma I use AIO + SG + S100. This is the first combo that I have tried. I am very happy with it. Gives it a very wet look and the S100 adds a little depth that the SG alone won't do.

The SG looks good by itself. I use Sonus which adds to its shine. The only reason I topped with S100 is the water beading that the SG doesn't really have. But I am glad I used it due to the depth it adds.

I will probably try a different combo next summer when I start from scratch again.... clay...AIO...SG... ???

What exactly is 1ZMP by Einszett? Is it a sealent like Klasse or just a polish to clean the paint? Is it safe for a new car? Would you follow 1ZMP with UPP, Klasse or EX-P? or just get a good wax like S100? I have Klasse AIO and just ordered 1ZMP. Want the best combo. My gut is I should follow 1ZMP with some kind of sealant (AIO, UPP or EX-P) and then wax with S100 or Pinnacle Signature, which is better for metallic silver.:nixweiss

I love a VM/BF or Platinum combo....Great looks and longevity.....If its during the winter months i will use MW instead, being as it gets dirty from rain and puddles so often, and cleaning is frequent. I dont really ned the longevity, so VM/MW !

Sorry, I dunno :o I only use this combo on the S8 and it doesn't get used often enough for me to know about durability (plus I refresh it pretty often). I dunno about layering, but I do two applications of UPP the first time and then add more whenever I'm in the mood or I notice a decrease in slickness. I haven't tried topping it as a) I like how it looks/feels (the slickness is a big part of why I use it) and b) I like to keep refreshing it without having to strip it back to bare paint or reuse the MP.

I will say that after the "deer incident", when the car had multiple applications of UPP over MP, the repair shop had to use lacquer thinner to strip it off. They said that PrepSol just beaded up on the panels (they were *very* curious about what I had on there). And when I was doing my field-expedient repairs immediately after the incident I had to use an alcohol-based window cleaner on it before I could get the duct tape to adhere. So I sure wouldn't think it's a *bad* choice.

But again, note that I get better bonding putting UPP over the Pro MP than I do over the pink consumer stuff in the rectangular can. I use a pretty long set-up time with either, but even longer with the pink version.

thanks for the detailed response. interesting (the deer/shop incident) i think i decided on the protection for winter... thanks to you :xyxthumbs do increasing the layers of upp adds to the shine? im prob gonna have to throw on atleast 6 coats for the longisland winter (all the damn salt, sand, and other crap!!)

my best results with silver SO FAR (still experimenting): klasse aio, klasse sg x3, and p21sx3

I really don't know about the layering, but to my eyes it seems to get better with additional applications. In my experience, the slickness of the UPP helps wash off the nasty crap without marring the finish.

If you're really concerned with durability/protection for the winter, I'd put looks on the back burner and use KSG (multiple layers), maybe topping it with Collinite or Meg's #16. Or use Zaino. Not that these wouldn't look good by any means. I somehow just don't see the UPP as being in the same league, despite my experiences with the S8. Sorry if that further muddies the waters or seems to contradict my previous posts.

I've gotten nice results on my 2004 Millenium Silver Prius using Blackfire. First coat of sealant looked good, but when I applied the second a few days later, it looked great. We've had several silver cars and it's a tough color to bring to a great shine, but the Blackfire is the best I've found so far.

Navindra,

Really do not know how Nattys compares to P21S on silver. Closest thing I have to P21S is S100 and I have not used it yet.

Thanks for the compliment, BTW.

It occurs to me that a) silver paints can be very different and b) we're talking about some *very* different looks, differences that anybody can notice (not just Autopians).

A few observations from having owned numerous silver cars from many manufacturers and from doing side-by-side comparisons with identical silver Audis treated with different LSPs:

BF looks great on silver (IMO) but darkens it quite a bit compared to other products. Upp is similar with less darkening. The Zaino look and NXT are *quite* different and if you like one look you might not care for the other.

The K twins look is sorta unique. Some people like how it looks on silver a lot better than I do (I prefer it topped with a carnauba). The twins don't seem to darken silver as much as they do some colors.

Even carnaubas that give very similar results can look different on this color- I love how Souveran looks on my silver/metallic light gray Jag, but the bright, reflective look that P21S gives it doesn't please me.

When I switched my wife's A8 from 3M Showcar Paste to #16 she noticed it immediately. When I redid the #16 using a QD "spit-shine" she immediately noticed *that*. She still remembers how Souveran looked on it and considers that quite different from how anything else looks.

As I said, these are not subtle differences and this is all IMO and that of my wife/friends.

Not saying any one is better than another, just that at some point you have to see what works in your eyes on *your* silver.
