Best Approach for a Black CRV

Now I am really starting to get into this detailing and have done Meguiars cleaner, polish, and then wax on the vehicle.

Been doing alot of reading on here and wondering if it is worth going the Polisher route with either a PC 7424 or 7336? However, does a polisher, especially on a black finish cause more problems then doing it by hand?

Any and all suggestions/feedback would be appreciated.

Get the PC. It's worth it and results will be a lot easier to come by. You'll thank yourself in the end!!
 
Any recommended model from Home Depot?

Does it come with some pads? Are there different ones to use whether you are applying a polish as oppose to a wax?
 
The PC 7336 is at Lowe's/Home Depot. It comes with one polishing pad. You will definitely need to look into getting a backing plate and some pads also. Check out the sponsors for those.
 
Time for MORE reading. . .

I inititially resisted the PC, but finally broke down & bought one. Now I am most definitely a convert!! But you should invest in a good selection of pads, also.

One pad per product that you intend to use, and a few extras because there will always be more products that you will want to try!! - TRUST ME ON THIS!!

This "hobby" is VERY addictive!!! - but rewarding!!:)

When do we get to see pics?
 
So you were using a PC and still have all the swirls? I am trying to decide whether the PC would be more effective than by hand.

I also have a black 2001 CR-V. I have to agree with EBPcivicsi about these cars showing scratches by looking at them the wrong way. I recently did a full detail using SSR2.5, SSR1 and Pwc and topped it with 4*UPP. Man was it slick!

However, I just saw the car in direct sunlight and I could see all the swirls are still there. I think I'm going to go the route using Meguiars DAC and Swirl Free Polish topped with NXT.

The day I get all the swirls out I WILL be a pro!

As a Black Car owner I feel your pain. As to which way to go. I was somewhat reluctant when I first started but heres how my story goes! Picture it ... a Beautiful Black Mustang convertible with paint that WAS almost flawless. Not knowing any better in the spring I pulled out a rotary with a wool pad that I had and went at it. from close up the car was as beautiful as smooth as silk! But when the sun hit it EEK!!!! Holograms everywhere from font to back top to bottom you name it ....it was swirled. I searched the net to find an answer as to how to fix my baby and found the gold mine .. (Detail City) I talked to a bunch of the people here and they recomended Poorboys products and said a PC was going to be necessary to repair the damage I had already done!

Since then I have become just shy of an expert with regards to black (im sure there are people that know a lot more and have a lot more experiecne but when it comes to what NOT to do Ive done it and fixed it at least on my car!) I have learned a lot about PC use and and pads to use and not to use. With all of that said. My opinion... Get your self a PC. If your reluctant because of the money I bought one used for $35.00 off of Ebay picked up $15-20.00 worth of parts from the net and had the unit serviced by a friend. For about $50.00 I have a practicly new unit. I picked up some pads (I prefer the new Advanced 7.5in high gloss pads that PAC has) and went at it ... Since then I have detailed 4 cars which I got paid to do which not only payed for my buffer but all the chemicals I purchased this summer!

Its a worth while investment ....It will just about last forever. Easy to use light weight and it will take you approxamtily 1/3 of the time to do a panel and when your done the results will shock you!

I agree with Focusedonsound! I think my damage just came from washing and an occasional car wash during winter months. After detailing the car with a PC it looks great in the garage. It's in direct sunlight that all the swirls will come out. I am told and by reading on this board that a Circular Polisher is the best way to remove severe swirl marks. I just bought one, a DeWalt DW849 and practice on my '93 Honda Civic. The results are great but it takes a lot of practice. I intend to try it our on the CR-V soon to see If I get better results. I have also read that it's best to follow up with a PC and SSR1, etc., then your topper.

Hey, it's an ongoing challenge. Each detail I learn a little bit more!
 
Sounds like the PC is the way to go...now the question is there a particular model that is recommended?

I guess my biggest concern is getting something that is at the wrong speed and making it worse then it already is.
