looking to do a final hand wax with my car with some collinite 476 today and was wondering what kind of applicator to use. Is there really a bad kind of applicator to use or are some just easier? Maybe i was just thinking of swinging over to walmart and picking up some new microfiber ones. Let me know guys thanks.

also, I did all detailing about 3 days ago. My final product i used was xmt finishing glaze, which is a glaze but also contains carnuaba. What do you guy think i should do? Just wash and then apply the wax or should i reglaze or something like that?

you should probably rewash to be on the safe side. I would also get some foam applicators if you can find them, the microfiber ones soak up a lot of product. But if you cant find foam, microfiber will still work really well.

go to your local big lots and you should be able to find the turtle wax foam applicators for .40 cents a piece...

I almost always apply 476 with a PC so it's basically a foam applicator. Although I've never used one with 476 a MF app might be just fine. Either way slightly dampen (and wring out well) before using. Oh, and remember to apply really thin coats.

Here are a couple of other ideas for the future if you want to do stuff like this by hand:

Handi-Grip Applicator

And use the following with 4" pads of your choice:

Danase Grip Easy Applicator Handle

How do you use solid wax with a pc???? do you just spread it over the pad and use it like a liquid? ive been thinking of doing something like this.

Yes, just spread a very small amount on the pad. There are several ways of doing it. If your pad (4") will fit in the container then you're all set. If not you can remove the pad from the PC and scrunch it up so it fits in the container. I usually use a 1" plastic putty knife and "butter" the pad with a small amount of wax or I use my Collinite Speed Stick Wax ;) :

And finally some paste waxes will actually fall out of their container if turned upside down allowing you to rub some wax onto your pad. With this method be careful you don't drop the wax! :soscared:

I use the foam applicators for 476 and any wax. The little yellow round ones. They do a great job of making thin coats so it is easier to remove. I've noticed that with the 476 if you don't get it thin forget about removing it.

I've been to three big lots in my area over the last month, and all they have are the large microfiber square ones. They have very, very light nap (feel like a camera lens cleaner cloth). What do the foam applicators look like? Yellow? Maybe I'm not seeing them?

Yes, they are the small round yellow foam apps...... I picked some up a couple of weeks back. If you don't mind paying a little more I'm sure the Meguiar's yellow foam apps are available at an Advance, Auto Zone, etc.:

I actually like the Meg's applicators a little more because they fit my hand better than the smaller ones, but the small ones do come in handy quite often. Many online vendors sell the small yellow apps so next time you place an order throw a few in your basket if your Big Lots is still out.
