Before I Zaino......

Just wanted to see what other people did to prepare their cars before using zaino.

1) I was thinking about...dawn, clay, Z7, p21s, then starting up with the Z5,Z6, Z2.

or.

2) dawn, clay, Z7, Menzerna IP, Menzerna FP, then using the Z5, Z6, Z2. (does the IP and FP have to be applied using a PC or can I use a orbital buffer/hand?)

Also hoping to see what members preferred before beginning...or if you have a better prep prcedure please let me know.

Thanks

NO Dawn.

Here's a good procedure:

Wash (NO Dawn)

Clay

Wash

IP

FP

Z5

Z6

Z2 AND STOP HERE You don't need anymore coats.

I would use a PC for best results. If you are working by hand get some 1Z or Poorboys polishes.

Some people use Dawn, some don't. If you clay and polish before the Zaino, then that procedure will remove any previously applied wax or sealant and there is really no need for Dawn.

If you use the Menzerna polishes, then you can go straight to Zaino since IP and FP do not contain fillers. I would personally do a 50/50 isopropanol/water wipedown after FP though. If you use p21S (I'm assuming you're talking about Paintwork Cleansing Lotion and NOT the wax) then you should wash afterwards because it contains fillers which will interfere with Zaino binding.

Otherwise I agree with ZaneO's method above as a good prep for Zaino.

I definitely want to apply the polish by hand so I am thinking about the 1Z/Poorboy polishes. With this said, what would you recommend for applications. Do I need to use both products or just choose one? Also if I am using these products it would be redundant to use the p21s, right? If it helps...it's a blk acura with minor clear coat scratches.

ZaneO & Dave N, thanks for your help really appreciate it. :xyxthumbs

if you have a pc i would use it to apply the polish, you would definitly get better results.

*I* would choose one line of polishes to work with. SSR 2.5 and SSR 1 if you go with Poorboy's and Ultra Paint Polish or Paint Polish followed by Metallic Polish if you go with 1Z.

I'm assuming you are talking about P21s GEPC? If so, it's not really needed. If you are talking about P21s Carnauba wax, you can put it on top of Zaino if you want (don't expect miracles).

If you use the 1Z line, I believe you should go over your car with 50/50 water/alcohol when you are finished to make sure the surface is ready for Zaino.

I assume you are talking about P21S paint cleaner? I would stick with one of the previously mentioned Menzerna polishes or Poorboy's SSR2, SSR1 or Pro Polish. None contain fillers so bonding won't be an issue.

Once you've prepped the paint, I always liked two coats of Z-5 to try and hide remaining micro-marring topped by one coat of Z-2.

Okay, I've been doing some searching and this is what I came up with.

1) Wash

2) Clay

3) Wash (Z7)

4) SSR2.5

5) SSR1

6) Z5 w/ZFX

7) Z6

8) Z5 w/ ZFX

9) Z2 w/ZFX

One question....I've read in some posts that Zaino will have trouble with SSR1, should I go to Poorboys Polish then Zaino or clean the paint with water/alchol (50/50 mix?

Also any modifications/input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Washing with Z7 is not necessary because you are going to remove any benefits left by it when polishing.

If you are worried about bonding go over your car with 50/50 water/alcohol.

No need to use Z6 with ZFX. Z6 is a spray on and wipe off

According to Sal at Zaino you SHOULD use Dawn for your first application of Zaino...

"I would definitely recommend you remove the wax buildup on your paint. Just use Liquid Dawn (hand dishwashing liquid) as a car wash. It has a high alkaline content which cuts right thru carnauba wax, paraffin, silicone oils, etc. This will get your paint finish squeeky clean and wax free.

I don't advise making a habit of washing your car with Dawn. But for this scenario it's fine. High alkaline products like Dawn are tough on polishes. It will never harm the paint finish though. A car wash is made specifically to clean without removing durable polishes. ALSO, Make sure you remove any water spots, before you apply my products. Because Zaino has no abrasives or harsh solvents it will not remove water spots or stains. Z-18 ClayBar is great for removing any paint surface contaminants. Re-wash the entire vehicle with Z-7 Car Wash immediately after the ClayBar

Cleaning Process."

Why do you think one should not? I trust Sal's opinion highly. I'm just curious why you say NO DAWN.
