This detail i did a few months ago and i am finally getting around to posting a tread on this one. This suburban is owned by a friend of mine and it is a 2001 w/ 248xxx and it has never been garaged or waxed. It was a challenge to say the least because in addition to a full detail, he wanted me to remove some dying pinstriping, tackle his pitted aluminum wheels, and a few other odd jobs. It was my first full rotary job and a good vehicle to practice on.

Other odds and ends:

Quick fix on the fog light

Repaint rusty tow hooks

Tried to polish out wheels

And here we go:

The fog light lens had fallen of and the owner asked me to glue it back on. There would be no point in gluing it back on if the light could not properly reflect so i too some reflective aluminum tape and did a quick fix and glued it back on. Afterwards i polished out the lense with m105 then plastix. The last picture was before polishing, i forgot to get a better after shot. It actually turned out really well, but i would still replace the light.

Yellow traffic paint. I hate removing this stuff.

The side rubs where really nasty, they polished up well though.

Here is the engine after pressure wash but no dressing. Forgot that final picture.

IMG_4052.jpg

The front tow hooks where really rusty so i wire brushed them really quick and shot on some simple rustolium.

These nasty chips in the clear coat show up after compounding with m105

It was after that i decided that paint might be too worn out to compound.

IMG_4062.jpg

Notice that the right side was compounded and the left was not. Already some preexisting chips, but new little cracks where starting to show up so i decided to just leave it alone.

Final shots

The sun would not cooperate so these pictures turned out pretty crappy and it was threatening to rain so i didn't spend to much time on these. It took 4 days worth of work to do a little resto/detail on this beast and i think that i turned out well all things considered.

My 99 Suburban had the same cracks, I believe they are stress cracks and they showed up after a good buffing, I ended up having the hood repainted, only place that it showed up was on the hood. Good job on the truck!

Thats a alot of paint!

Great work, the hood is a bummer, it showed up on my 2002 Yukon that had highway rock chips all over the place, after i tired to compound the whole thing.

Awesome turnaround, none the less!

Thank you all for the replies

Any fading due to sun etc left in the wake of the pinstripe?

If you looked closely you could see some color difference, but the polishing got rid of it. In sections where it had naturally worn off, it was much harder to remove than the stronger areas. odd how it behaves that way.

This is a home run!! Looks great and removing that pinstripe takes years off the vehicle's age. Nice job!!
