Here is a great way to earn that extra few bucks that you would consider a tip,but they consider it a part of the job. Lately I have been getting 50 dollar tips and i was like wow! It seems many times when a customer is already paying 125-165 dollars for a full detail, many dont want to go that extra mile for the detail and fabric guard. Some do and some dont, but in the end I always put the fabric guard down. After the detail I tell them I put the fabric guard down for free of charge or did the engine for free and they always give me a tip plus a some extra cash.

It takes less than 10 mintues to put fabric guard down and less than 30 mintues to detail an engine. EVen though I might not have gotten the full price for the extra service, that service utilized little time and little product. This makes the customer very happy and therefore they tip me well.

Great advice! I personally stay away from engines myself, but I'll sometimes clean up the interior a bit if I'm doing an exterior only detail.

Umm that should be standard. If your doing a exterior wash. You should at least vacumn the car and wipe down the dash. That is what I do at least.

On rare occasion when I detail for pay, I always dress *both* sides of the tires( use some wider foam paint brushes, stick you arm in the well, lay on your back, etc) as I would my own vehicles :D. Tell your clients that and it will knock their socks off! :D

A couple of our employee's did 3 wash wax, and vac's for the same guy and threw in a couple extra's like aio the wheels and they got a $60 tip each. They also talked with the guy for a while but not bad for about 6 hours work.

Im talking about an exterior detail (not just a wash). Sometimes I will vacuum the interior, but sometimes I dont, so anything that I do to the interior would be considered a bonus to the customer.
