My car - 2003 WRX w/ lots of mods -

even though it looks almost completely stock on the outside - its setup to be my track day partner

anyways my only before - paint was not terrible but neglected and has suffered one to many bumper/fender cones and off track excursions

wash megs gold class

sonus sfx-1 on DAS Orange at 4-5

sonus sfx-2 on DAS Green at 5-6

megs #7 on DAS Blue at 6

megs #27 by hand

it was late with poor lighting so pics kinda suck, I will try and get better ones tomorrow. I have no garage so car had to be driven 15 miles home so it will be a little less than perfect for the pics tomorrow but anyways

no swirls

The flash and poor lighting owns me

more crappy lighting with no tripod but look at my white accords reflection

more honda reflection

I am gonna finish up the rest of the detail sometime here in the next couple days (only worked on the paint today) and then the Honda is next

I think this PC bug has bitten - :waxing:

thanks for all of the advice

Very nice for your first time!

Better pictures would show off your effort more but even in the bad pictures you can certainly see a big improvement.

But now you've done it... you caught the bug and are hooked :woot2:

well what sucks is my camera is actually pretty decent but with crappy lighting and not bringing my tripod = sucky pics - hopefully I can show it off a little better tomorrow

very nice work and even nicer car! I'm impressed. So did one pass with sfx1 remove most of the swirls, or did you do 2 passes, and if it didn't remove all the marring, did the sfx2 help remove any, or just clean up the surface?

well honestly, I don't think the sfx1 worked all of the imperfections out, not because of the lack of its ability but because of my lack of comfort with the machine and using a "heavier product". I put the sfx2 on x2 and by the second application I was comfortable enough to just "go to town" and after buffing the haze off it was really like "wow this thing really does work and make a difference".

The green pad was much easier to tell how much pressure I was using as well. I think that combined with the increased comfort after doing it a couple of times made the difference. I am going to take the orange pad and PC to the bathroom scale and get a better idea of what that pressure feels like with that density pad before I work on it next time.

lol - looks stock - far from it

thanks for the responses - it will become slightly less stock for function purposes but everything I do is for function

case in point - I just got back my v5 STi wheels from the powder coater. still 16s but 16x7 for a more square sidewall and still keeping the offset where I want it (ie not eating wheel bearings)

Also I will be getting a v7 STi scoop to feed more air to the TMIC.

I will try to get some good tripod pics after I do the rest of the detail (trim, wheel wells, interior)

VERY nice. One of my buddies has a 05 STI tuned/tb exhaust and it put down 300whp/320wtq, sweet car.

With that VF39, are you in the mid to high 200's in whp?

yeah pretty much, I tune the car myself (I own a innovate w/b) and it has really never been on the dyno with the new setup, I would gestimate 270ish whp on 93.

I have "tested" its speed straight line against a 255 whp TD06 MKII MR2 and a 247 whp SR20'd S13 from a roll and came out favorably against them. I figure the added weight of my car is probably worth 15ish whp. One of these days I am going to get it on the dyno just for giggles.

I have been setting up water/meth injection but ran out of cash. It will be my next mod and then I will shoot for at least 300 whp

THANKS!!!

By the way just out of curiosity did you frequent hondasociety at one point and time scottwax - I think I remember hearing your name mentioned in the car care/detail forum

Wow, I really need to try more polishing, if a new guy did this good, I feel pitful, my first time out I felt like I did more damage than good, and haven't tried it since.. I just got a new 06 WRX and I've been wanting to yank the dealer installed swirl option out for a while, your thread has inspired me.

thats one of the things I love about this site, seeing all of the great jobs people do and all of the special techniques and things people know inspires me to try and take better care of my vehicles finish.

I figure as anal as I am about the mechanical maintenance bits, I should at least be doing the cosmetic maintenance to the best of my abilities and budget

from another wrx owner, very nice! Your ride is very much the sleeper especially if youre at 270whp (that's almost +100whp over stock for those not in the know)

thanks!!!

yeah its makes for quite the day ruiner for when the old men in their expensive sports cars can't get my little 4 cylinder 4 door sedan off of their rear bumper on the track lol
