Doesn't matter....as I wash my tires on a weekly basis anyways...

Jason has had sucess with Armor-All Exterme Shine protectant. I used Black Magic Tire Wet before, and it looked REALLY greasy.

Don't like it myself, but has a nice, long-lasting easy-to-use wet-look shine. Stoner's More Shine Less Time is pretty good too, but let it sit for about 2 hours before driving, or it might sling off.

I still like Z-16 and 303 more though.

BW,

I would feel somewhat unsure about putting Armor All on my tires, but maybe Jason could give us some insight on any long term effects. Does Black Magic Tire Wet have any silicones in it that might degrade my tires? I have heard about Stoner's Tire Dressing and was thinking of giving that a try. Thanks.

It goes on like a non greasy gel, and dries completely. One coat gives a nice shine, 2 coats gives a REALLY glossy look. It seems to last about 1-2 car washes. I apply it after every wash, washing tire sidewalls in between coats. After driving in the rain, the gloss fades, but the tires stay BLACK.

I am currently using Black Magic's Tire Gel, trying to get rid of the stuff. Problem is that I use so little (or a little goes a long way) at each use that it will take a while! As far as I know, the packaging does NOT say the product uses silicone, but it does contain petroleum distillates, which may cause browning of the tire. I dont think this is a big deal as I go through tires VERY quickly (usually less than 10k miles) and have a dedicated set of tires for when I really beat on things (at the track).

I would say it has a relatively ghetto shine. Take a look at the tires on my Integra here and on the other cars that I have used the stuff on here. It may or may not suit your taste.

BTW, I always recommend applying tire products with a "swipe" or foam applicator. I would try the Turtle Wax stuff first if you can find it (I can't find it anywhere...)

maguires is okay for the ghetto shine you want and lasts relatively long

but if you want a real ghetto shine, get some black magic tinted dressing in metallic silver, blue or red, not that's true ghetto style!!! :D

they make that one and a the traditional on in the dark green bottle with a white cap (same bottle looks like) and it's not 2001. I have the latter, it works okay, I like that it's creamy more than oily (less drips you can see where you apply it) but I tend to think you'd use more. Another will have to quote you on this bottle.

Eagle One's Tire Wet is pretty nice as well. I have also used Meguiar's #40 (Tires look just as good as Endurance Gel), and Vinylex.

I was using 303, until I got Z 14. The Zaino stuff seem to last a bit longer. They are both not super glossy though, just nice and matte black. I prefer that to the wet look. Both go on easily with tire swipes.

I have tried Turtle Wax - Tire Wax (not the gel) It's not a bad product either for a matte finish, but that too doesn't last as long as Z-14.

It comes in a spray bottle and says to spray 3 applications on the first application. I just spray on one coat and spread it around with a eagle one tire swipe. I let it sit for an hour or so, then swipe them again. Wait overnight before the car drives off.

The tires were cleaned prior with Ef Hi Intensity full strength and a sponge. All this black and brown stuff came off the tire, yuck.

I let the tires dry, applied the AA like I stated in the first paragraph.

The tires came out if not the same shine as Ef Black Opal, a little less shiny, but still ghetto shiny for me, shinier than Vinylex.

The tires are 2 week old Firestone passenger tires. They are 15 inches, and I do not recall the name of them, but know they are Firestones.

I applied the tire dressing, went home for the week, we had some period of rain, and two weeks later, I inspected the car again. For sure there are water droplets on the car, but had no time to wash it. The next wash is this weekend if it is warm enough. This car is pretty good for the amount of care it is given and the odemeter is pretty high, roughly 57,000+ miles on it, a 99 corolla. The tires, not shiny, but a nice matte look. No browning.

As for Armour All degrading the tires, I do not really care. The tires are changed every 2 years. As soon as that 50,000 mile marker is hit (usually 2 years) the tires are changed. Now I do not use AA on the dash, it gets a nice diet of Vinylex. The dash is not likely to be replaced in the life of this car, that is much longer than 2 years.

So, I am not worried about the tires on this car. Now if it was a garage queen with less than 5,000 miles a year on 50,000 mile tires, then I will worry about the tire dressing. I would use a water base dressing most of the time, except for one car, a BMW 3 series in which I use Meguiars Endurance.

Well, after a few hours of doing paper work for new uniform issues, I am tired, so I will stop my babbling,

Jasom
