Hey everyone, My girlfriend recently had to have some surgery on her foot and the nurse who bandaged her up put on a guaze that apparently sticks to the wound...Shes tried soaking it in hot water and it still wont budge. She wants to try to take it off before tomorrow where the nurse will probably just rip it off...Any tips as to how to get this gauze pad to fall off...Thanks for the help guys!

When I was gauzed up, I would soak it in peroxide to get them unstuck.

Did it hurt? Right now we are putting some petroleum jelly on the gauze to try and loosen it up....When she read your response she looked like this in fear of the pain: :soscared:

does anyone know if soaking in epson salt water would do the same thing as a saline solution?

Ummm and her response to peroxide was :soscared: theres not even a smilie for how sat water would feel on an open wound.... trust me try saline or peroxide..... or just soak a wash cloth in warm water and let it set on the gauze , i would not recomend soaking the wound itself as it will cause it to heal slower

try regular table salt. that's all saline solition is. 0.9% NaCl about a gram in a liter of solution, or for you non metric types, a 2 teaspoons in a quart. Epsom salt is Magnesium sulfate, the only thing the two have in common is the word salt.

If not, then 1/2 stregnth hydrogen peroxide, which shouldn't really burn much if at all.

saline is something you can pick up at a local drug store..I worked at a would care center dealing with all kinds of nasty bad smelling ozzing wounds.. soaking it with saline is the best way. they normally come in a spray bottle and you just soak the bandage and it will come off.
