Bad water spots...

i have to do an excursion that has bad water spots in the paint. The guy that he bought it off of used to park it by his well water sprinklers. What can i use to get it out? ssr 2.5?? or acid? not sure

oh and its a dark blue

The only real way to know what will take them off is actually trying to get them off. THe ssr2.5 may do the trick, but as you may know use the least abrasive products first. Others will probably chime in and let you know about the acid deal b/c I have no info on that... good luck

If they are etched into the paint, they may require wetsanding. It's possible if they are very bad that it might prove very difficult to remove at all. Good luck. Hopefully someone will give you more info than that.

To help remove some of the lighter ones you may want to try a little distilled vinegar in the wash. It's not going to remove etched spots, but it's good at removing some of the lighter spots.

depending how long they've been there and if they've been sun baked, they may never come out...you can try the SSR2.5 or the vinegar and see if you see much of a difference and then decide how much work you want to put into it. Wet sanding will be quite a chore, especially if you don't have a rotary.
Good luck:D

if the water spots are from sprinklers then there is no problem. it'll get off with a simple ssr1. not if its from acid rain its a diff story. its etched. thats the diff in the two. they both look the same. but the contaminents and pollutents in the acid rain which comes from power plants and such is what penetrates the clearcoat. well water just builds a hard layer ON TOP of the clear coat which is pretty much just iron...i hope i helped u. i had the same problem 2 weeks ago and i called autogeek for some advise... and they told me that word for word. sorta!

yea i dont know whats up with it. im not going to be doing it untill next week. I might try some megs. #2. phff, ill probably try everything i have in the garage. and ill try the vinegar wash. Just gonna have to wait. Thanks

I wish i took some pics of this job I did this weekend. Mean waterspots I had to do an estimate for the customer first , so I tried PB's PP on a spot and it worked . But then I tried it on the front fender where the sprinkler hit it the most and the PP didn't make a dent.

All sprinkler water isn't created equal . how long as it had a chance to set in?or bake in?

What worked best for me was using medium grade clay bar. I clayed it twice fairly aggressive and all of it didn't come out. So I used PC yellow pad w/ 2.5. on 6 with alot of pressure. If you have a rotary I'd use that . I spent 7 hrs buffing claying, buffing and sealing . It came out cherry except the water etched the bumpers and it wouldn't come out . The black framing and chrome moldings were the worst . I used DACP by hand .

Don't be afraid to charge accordingly . I got 265 plus 35 tip. I eaned all of it. I wish my wife knew how to give a massage..LOL
