Bad Paint - W/Pics

So as the photos below show, I've got a car that really needs some help. These pics are all before wash, not that it helped much, all those water spots were etched in.

This is my sisters car, and I'm cleaning it up for her. I'd like to get some of the swirls out, but I realize this car is at the point that the best I can do is make it look ok from 20 ft away. I decided to test out on the hood. Anybody know what those light marks on the paint are? (Especially visible in the third pic) I was thinking oxidation, but AIO didn't touch them... Clearcoat failure maybe?

Washed with DC

Clayed with TOL Purple clay.

All this is Via PC btw.

PB SSR2.5, 5.5" Orange pad, speed 6.

PB SSR 3, 5.5" Orange pad, speed 6

Klasse AIO, 6" White pad, Speed 5

OP, 55" Orange pad, speed 6

After all that I've maybe removed 30% of the swirls, got most of the etched in water spots though. Any ideas? Should I try out some 4" orange pads (will have a couple here next week) Obviously the car is extremely beat down, but I wanted to make it look presentable. After having so much trouble with the hood, I decided to concentrate on the interior (smelled like a sewer and everything was oily to the touch, came out pretty nicely though) and seek advice from the experts. Any and all advice is welcome and much appreciated!

Thanks

Wow man just wow. The spots on the third picture are most likely water marks that are a little too deep to take out. I would be very carefull with the polisher on that paint. That is by far the worst car ive ever seen.

I know a perfect finish is impossible, Heck even a marginal finish would pass muster for me. As far as being careful with a polisher on that car, no worries, it's my sisters. She could care less if I found a was to burn straight through the sheetmetal. I'll try and get some bright sun shots tomorrow so you guys can see what I am looking at. Right now most of it just has a quick coat of Meg's Cleaner wax, while I try and figure out what is possible for this car.

Thanks

Ok your a fellow subbie owner so I'll help you out.. your thought is good but tyour process is lacking..

I'm assuming that is what you did in the order you did it.. if so you went from a med hevy polish to a suber heavy polish.. and then right to a chemical polish.. then went back to a polish on another cutting pad..

All that on a black car..

So let's start over

I suggest

SSr 2.5 on a cutting pad (colors does help I don't know what pads you own and all makes are different.) Please you speed 6 and MOVE SLOWLY VERY SLOWLY and when you think your down go over it again.

SSR 2.5 on a polishing pad again speed 5-6 moving slowly think that your doing Ti-Chi.. that slow and again when you think your do make one more pass

OP on a polishing pad same deal bro....

AIO if you want but really it's not going to do much.. and if your using a cleaner wax.. it will take it right off.

:waxing:

good luck.

Sorry, I reread my post and could see how I wasn't terribly clear. The different polishes were used in different spots on the hood so I could get an idea of what would work. The AIO was because of the spots I thought were oxidation. I did end up using SSR 2.5 on the whole hood after finishing up the test spots. SSR 3 didn't really cut as hard as I thought it would and you can't tell a difference in the spot it was used versus the rest of the hood done with SSR 2.5.

I do have a pretty decent understanding of the order of aggressiveness of the products I have. The cleaner wax is a temporary stopgap at the moment just to put a little protection on the vehicle since I won't be able to work on it again for about two weeks. When I decide I'm finished working the paint it will end up with a coat of 476s on top of AIO. I do appreciate the advice though, I've been moving the PC about and inch - inch and a half per second. Too fast? I can slow it down to about half inch per second and see what happens.

Thanks again for the counsel
