Bad acid rain etching

I have a '91 miata with single-stage blue paint. It came to me with significant acid-rain etching. I have tried the following to no avail:

Attempt 1:

Meg's Deep Crystal Polish by Random Orbit

Meg's Deep Crystal Wax by RO

Result: decent shine, little to no change in etching.

Attempt 2:

Meg's #83 DACP by PC

Meg's #7 by PC

NXT by hand

Result: no swirls, but etching largely unaffected.

Attempt 3:

Meg's #2 Fine Cut by Rotary

Meg's #9 Swirl Remover by PC

Meg's #7 Glaze by PC

NXT by hand

Result: some smoothing of etching, but still clearly visible. Paint is still full of 'features' for lack of a better term. :(

I've been following the generally-accepted practice of stepping up the aggressiveness a bit at a time, but I'm getting frustrated burning several hours without really getting anywhere. :nixweiss

What would you recommend at this stage. Wet sanding? 3M or Meguiars medium or heavy cutting compound? I'd really like to achieve a smooth, glossy finish if there is enough paint to allow it. I have not come close to burning through the paint, so it looks like it's pretty thick.

Any suggestions welcome. I used to work as a detailer a long time ago, but am not too familiar with the latest tools and techniques (although I'm learning :D ).

I wonder how the three Einszett (1z)polishes: Ultra, Paint and Metallic Polish, especially by rotary, would do in this situation. I've had good results just by PC.

I see that Meguiar's makes an acid rain etching remover #4 that comes in a 16oz bottle called Heavy Cut Cleaner. Its rated at an 8 on their chart. DACP is at 6. #84 is rated at 9 but comes in a 32oz bottle. PRO also makes an acid rain remover (P-41) but you have to buy it by the gallon.

Rotary and DACP should do it but you used a PC with DACP. I would try rotary and DACP before moving up. I have removed some light but not deep acid rain spots (in the clearcoat) with PC and Menzerna's PowerGloss rated at around 7.

The choice is up to you so don't burn thru the paint. Let us know.

Just ordered Heavy Cut and Medium Cut. I will start with Medium and see what happens.

would like to know if you got the acid rain spots out?

If you did, which machine, pad, polish did it for you?

I have a clearcoat car (99 Honda) with some spots that a PC would not touch. Customer wants me to at least lessen them with a rotary but I am debating the issue. So I am curious how you made out.

Revisiting this post, it reminds me of my former black Maxima, yep, water spots, acid rain marks, etc. I did just get the PC when I still had it and even with a wool pad they wouldn't come out. This situation here may also be in need of a rotary.
