Backing plate question

I just got the Chicago Electric rotary from Harbor freight, and it comes with a 7" backing plate.

Has anyone used it, it seems that I would have to get 8 1/2" pads to use with it.

Due to the fact that I am a complete novice rotary user, is the 8 1/2" to much for me.

All thoughts and opions are appreciated

TIA

You should replace that backing plate with a better one. Autogeek has several backing plates for both rotary and PC's. If you get a 5" rotary BP you can use smaller pads (~6.5"), or with a 6" BP you can use 7.5" pads.

IMO, it is usually easier to learn the rotary if you start with smaller pads.

But one correct answer is worth more than mere opinion

there are far more people who learn than teach, hence the 60 views

A paint film surface is a delicate thin coating, easily dulled and very easily scratched. Choose carefully the advice you listen to and more importantly what advice you act upon.

I can't agrue with wisdom,

I would rather have 1 correct answer than 100 opinions.

Thank you
