well today i was using some ssr 2.5 today with a megs. polishing pad set to speed 6. after getting half of the car done, the backing plate got really hott and the pad wasnt sticking anymore. what happend?

Make sure you are still getting rotation with the pad. If you apply so much pressure that the rotation stops, it will heat up.

i was using the one from autogeek.net it sells for 14.95. no problem though, went to autogeek today and they just swapped me a new one. guess i dont have to push so hard next time

You want the speed of the PC and your product/pad to do the work. A good rule-of-thumb that Scottwax has mentioned here before is to apply just enough pressure to bog the PC down a bit, and then let up until it just gets back to speed.

Iâ€â„¢ll occasionally bear down a little harder for brief periods, but if you have to do it consistently then you need to work a smaller area a bit slower with more than one application or bump up to a more aggressive polish and/or pad.
