Backing plate for Sonus pads

All,

I am wondering how others are using the new Souns pads. I have a 5 inch backing plate.

Is anyone using a 5 inch backing plate with their 6 inch Sonus pads? Does the backing plate sit inside the pad's indentation, or does the backing plate sit above the indentation and on the outer portion of the pad?

I am concerned that using a 5 inch plate will not distribute downward forces evenly across the face of the pad since the indentation does not make contact with the backing plate.

Thoughts??

Thanks

Hey Rick,

I am currently using the Sonus Pads and LC pads. On my Sonus pads I originally got the v1.0 pads, they had a lot more of a recess. The only problem with the recess is that the BP would dig into the pad and start to shread it, and then all of this pad dust would fly around. But the new pads are awesome, I really like them a lot!! They don't have as much of a recess as the old ones, but it still serves the purpose they were trying to make with the recess. Plus, David from Autopia gave me new pads under warranty at no charge, how's that for customer service! I will try to post pics in a couple of minutes. I have the Sonus 5" BP, it works just great, I also use the same BP for my LC pads. I originally was discouraged with the Sonus pads the way they were coming apart, but my faith has been restored with these pads and I think I might start using them exclusively again! I'll post pics in a couple of minutes!! In the 3rd pick you see the blue particles on my PC, that is the Blue Polishing pad dust from when I last used them. And on the last pic, you can see where the BP was digging into the pad! Also, the pads have even coverage, no need to worry about the BP being smaller than the pad!

Thank you for the reponse and pictures 04cobra.

The pictures were really helpful.

I have a 5 inch backing plate. Not the yellow Sonus BP that you have. My BP does not fit into the recess. It sits on the outer rim of the pad.

I guess I need to get a new BP.

Thanks

Rich

I have a 5" flex plate that I got from David's store and it doesn't quite fit into the recess of the new Sonus pads. That's just the way it is and I wouldn't worry about it.With the velcro going out to almost the edge of the foam they can be used with a 6" BP plate also from what I've read.
