B Pillars swirlsssss!

Anyone have any experience polishing MK6 GTI B Pillars? I would love to hear suggestions/tips/experiences.

I have an MK6 GTI and had the same problem with the B pillars. I saw a thread where someone used a pretty aggressive polish and pad and made them worse, so I was pretty scared to attempt anything. Once I decided to try it, I went pretty safe. I used a Griot's DA with a 4" hydro tech crimson pad and Griot's Polish 4 (very mild polish). My first attempt didn't do much but at least it didn't make it worse. For the next attempt I put the DA speed on 5, used more pressure and worked the polish longer. The B pillars came out beautiful.

Welcome to Autopia!

What do you think of the Griot's MP#4? That's one I never tried....isn't it like a mix of MP#3 and wax, or am I completely off-base

Thanks.

Griot's MP#4 is a very very very mild polish. It didn't do a damn thing to the few swirls on my car. I knew going into it that it wouldn't do anything, but I got my GTI in July and I wasn't ready to polish it just yet. Plus, I'm new to machine polishing, so I wanted try something safe. The approach I took was to treat MP#4 like a paint cleaner, which it did very well. I visited the Griot's store in Tacoma, WA a few weeks ago and they said none of their polishes have fillers except MP#4. I didn't notice it filling anything. MP#4 has no wax or any other protection that I'm aware of.

TornadoRed- Thanks for the additional info. Hmm...wonder what does the filling  Maybe it's a mix of polish and their Glaze :nixweiss

Intersting that you didn't experience any real filling, but then most "concealing" products don't do all that much IME and it's easy to expect too much from them.

I bet your GTI has typical VW/Audi clear, very hard. I never got where I wanted to go on that with Griot's MPs, but yeah, I bet the MP#4 does make a good paintcleaner (I've used the MP#3 for that, and it didn't really correct any marring on the Audis either).

Lucky you getting to visit their Tacoma store! I bet that was like a toystore for adults.
