AW and waxes

Accumulator wrote: Pardon my ignorance, are the 921/531 DG QDs? If so I wonder what other QDs I could mix the AW with...though to be honest, I don't really like the idea of having to buy multiple products and mix 'em up. I know, I know...but it's just *so* simple to merely grab the SpeedShine/FK425 and do the job.

921 and 521 are indeed QDs and great ones at that. The 521 is the marine version and is excellent (a ramped-up 921 according to DG). I buy it by the gallon off the Duragloss site. AW is excellent as a topper sealant.

Just bought some Quik Shine and am curious how that will compare. One thing about AW is supposedly you shouldn't use it all the time--mutes metallic flakes.

Many folks mix AW and 521 (about 1oz per 30oz of 521). That mixture won't hurt the cleaning abilities of the 521.

I like mixing 8oz. of AW to 24ozs. of 521, doesn't seem to affect cleaning ablities or muting. Tried several mixtures and this works the best for me.

ricka- Thanks for explaining about the DG QDs.

See what you think of QwikShine. I didn't really care for it all that much (still have most of the gallon sitting here), greatly prefering Speed Shine on carnauba and FK425 on, well, most everything.

Ever tried OCW after a wash on your "nuba cars?"

The new Meguiars UQD isn't bad either, though I am waiting to see how the new "profesional" version available in gallons performs.

Who makes Speed Shine? I'm also getting a sample of the Danase Turbo Detailer to compare via Bob...Detailing has turned me into an amateur chemist!

Gotcha...thanks.

I have Griots detailing clay and am happy with that...

The SpeedShine has so much (presumably carnauba-based) lubricity/wax/stuff in it that it doesn't really work all that well for me as a clay lube, even though that's a big application for it according to Griot's.

And yeah, I used their clay for years (three generations of it IIRC), it's not bad stuff at all.
