Autopians in the UK with a PC

Another point to watch with the transformers is the power rating. The Screwfix one is rated at 3KVA but read the small print and thats only for intermittant use - for constant use its only 1.5KVA. Thats plenty for a PC and some work lights, but if you are looking to buy one just big enough to run the PC, make sure it really can run the PC full time if you need it to.

I agree with Butchdave. Although the Newmarket 500 watt would have sufficed for a PC, I thought the extra £15 or so was advisable for the 1KVA. This helps provide an even & constant supply to the PC however hard it's working. An inadequate supply will cause irregular action & possiblly poor results or damage.

Has anybody got any experience of this polisher.

I've seen nothing like it before. Looks like a plastic cyclo

What about the PC that megs are selling? Is this designed for the UK power voltage thing and if so - is it any good?

The meguairs buffer is identical to the PC. I cannot remember seeing any advertised in the UK except for the portable buffer which can be bought from Alex.

lakecountry pads can be purchased in the UK. These are identical to the CMA pads (Lakes is the OEM supplier). First Autobody Supplies Unit C2, Sneyd Hill Industrial Estate, Burslem, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, Tel:01872-817172

From what I gather the Meguiars PC (not the battery one) is only available in the States. It's the usual story of voltage differences etc etc..... It's something I'd asked about ages ago and as far as I'm aware still applies.

Cheers :)

Did you include this on your stickie?

Not yet :)

Hoping to make contact within the next few days.

I tried contacting Porter Cable several times but I guess they dont want to speak to me :(

Yeah, don't expect an answer from Poter Cable if you e-mailed them direct. Think I've tried two or three times now and they've never replied :(.

Surely there's a cheaper equivalent available here in the UK?

Since i've been looking round this site I was wondering the same.

Then I had an idea :idea

As far as I can tell, the benefit of the PC is that it 'wiggles' instead of rotating, so less friction, heat and risk of damage.

So surely any variable speed Orbital Sander that 'wiggles' and uses velcro attatched discs can be used. Or is there something i've missed??

Orbital sander + velcro + pads = cheap 240v PC, :up or :down

No doubt that there are people reading this now going :scared :nono :rofl

I haven't actually looked at my sander, it is only a thought at this moment.

Tony :)
