Autopian wife !!

Over here (Guadalajara) there are people on the malls, restaurants, or near any big parking lot offering car washes for about $2 (free scratches and swirls included).

My wife's car got sprayed with dirty water and got offered a car wash at a restaurant, she refused and replied to the guy
"My husband would beat me if someone else besides him washes this car" ... the guy promptly went away.

and no I don't beat her ... too often <strong class='bbc'>JUST KIDDING[/b]

Anyway we had a laugh when she described the look in the guys face

I remember a trip into Mexico with family some years ago. They had the guys that would run up to your vehicle and clean the window at stop lights. Some of em' would clean it even if you said :nono , and still expect to be paid. I would be sooooooo pissed if that happened to me!

Windshield washing is a cottage industry in NYC. And you are better off telling them not to wash it and just pay them. The first time this happen to me I was :scared to death!!!

I remember in Phoenix and Vegas when we used to cruise and stop into the parking lots to bs guys would approach with watered down Armor All in a squirt bottle and offer to do your tires for a few bucks.

Tbird, just noticed you're in Fargo ND... do you have a heated garage ? It should be challenging to be an autopian during the sub-zero months ... I lived through 3 winters in MN, and I wouldn't even go the gas station car wash as my doors might freeze, once I had to climb through the rear hatch, good thing it was a hatchback car...

Amgtorre, the garage is attached and has baseboard heart and I use a few spaceheaters also. But in January-February the best I can do is get the garage into the 40 degree farenheit range unless we have an unussually warm stretch. So there are a few months I take off. That's why i always end up being a seasonal poster too. I do stick the TBird into storage for six months every year too, so there is one less vehicle to worry about.

What I love up here is everybody buys those lock deicers and then puts them into the glovebox. If only they could chip the ice of the lock to get into the car's glovebox.

I still remember the look of utter wonder on my wife's face before I had the baseboard units and spaceheaters. I had the house forced air heat cranked, all the vents closed except the one in the foyer and the house door to the garage open. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Yeah, they do that in Italy as well. The Gypsys.

never seen em in pittsburgh, but then again pittsburgh is a strange city, possibly with more construction than any other city in the us.

This is why I'm a concealed carry kind of guy. Someone wants to come up and wash my windows they might get a suprise when they get to the car. ;) I'm really anal about that kind of stuff. I only have 3 rules; Don't park in my spot, don't put ice in my drinks, and don't touch my car. I think those are fairly simple rules. :)

Right on the money, I couldn't have said it better.
Go to a restaurant in the middle of winter and they still fill it up with ice. If I wanted filler I'd ask for it.

This happened to me in Chicago. One Sunday, I was on my way to church after picking up a friend of mine. When I exited the Dan Ryan (I-94) at 95th St, there was a guy going around trying to clean windows. After everyone told him no, he makes a beeline for my FRESHLY WASHED Maxima. As soon as he spritzed the stuff on my window, I yelled out "WTH are you doing?!?"
He said that he was cleaning my windows and I was thinking, "Why in the hell would you try to clean an already cleaned window?!?"

Agh! I think mine is the worse- a homeless guy was "washing" both the paint and windows with newspaper! Then imagine coming back to your car and seeing a fee for the "help!" (It took place in downtown LA Chinatown... no more parking in the street for me!!!)

:scared

Don't do what I did one time in Downtown Atlanta... Had a similar situtation where some guy is walking from car to car washing the windshields at a stop light. My car was clean & detailed and I didn't want him messing it up. By the time he approached my car, I pushed the windshield washer/wiper switch and cleaned my already clean window in front of him. He spit on my side window... which was put up when I saw him approaching cars in front of me.

I'm lucky... he could have kicked or damaged my car... or just pulled out a gun. "Honest Officer, I drove over the bum in self defense"

must be an all-over-the -world issue:

a few weeks back there was a bennefit-action from our local scoutsgroup: for about 2.5€ they would "wasch" your car at the shoppingcenter.

Two youngsters approached my car , told me what they were up to.I friendly asked if I could see the water they were using : it ended up me giving them 5€ and I kindly asked them to concidder my car "clean".

:D
