Autopia Detailer's Directory

I am not now a Detailer in business but I have bought a slug of product and a Porter Cable polisher so I can learn by doing my motorcycle, and then move on to cars and business. If you do make a Directory, which is a great idea, please do not neglect Canada like most online sellers.

It bugs me that Americans in general see Canada as a back-woods Country that's all Bush (No, nothing to do with your President!), lol. I am in Vancouver, BC, less than 200 KM from Seattle, WA.

NOTE: I said "In General" so no flames please.

Anyone in Vancouver, BC willing to teach me hand-on, I am willing to work FREE, even the Grunge work, lol. Apologies for hijacking the thread to post this message.

I am working on an international solution.

I detail on the weekends so Im not by any means a full time business.... although at any instance I can provide quality pictures from previous jobs and could have many many references if needed.

Can I be a part of this or is it going to be reserved for full timers and businesses only?

I would advise against using the IP address solution. IPs don't always reslove to where you think they should. My parents home IP address in Lexington, KY resolves to Valejo orseomthing like that California. Others that I know there home IPs (all cable modems) resolve to different parts of the country. I think that ZIP Code would be much more reliable. Otherwise, I would kill to find someone around my location that I could learn from. Else, just going to teach myself. Heh.

Is there an ETA for this directory?

The Detailer Directory will be part of the Autopia v4 upgrade. I am currently looking at directory software that is already built vs. building my own. One of my "wants" is a detailer directory that geo locates the detailers in a person's area by looking up their IP address. The IP address database for doing this will cost about $500-700 per year, depending on the level of detail I want. With a good database, I can geo locate down to a few square blocks (a neighborhood). That will let me match detailers with clients.

You're right, there are some flaws, but for the most part it works pretty well. All cable/DSL operators isolate their network into blocks of IP addresses. These blocks belong to a POP (point of presence) within the network that serves a general area. There are strange cases, but they are not the norm. A typical area served by a block of IP addresses is less than a square mile.

i also think it's a good idea and agree with pedro that zip code would be much more effective

Maybe you all don't understand the purpose... the IP address lookup will allow me to serve YOUR BANNER ADVERTISEMENT to the visitor.

Now do you all understand?

Yes, people looking for a detailer should be able to search by zip code, area code, mobile detailer, special services offered... whatever.

Just trying to do my part to keep you Pros in biz!

that sounds great and all but i'm not a pro per say haha

just a guy in love with detailing... better than most around me, but can't compare to these autopia pros :buffing: :p

Do you have any problems with me linking the directory on another board? I am constantly asked by people if I know of a good detailer in their area and I would much rather support my fellow autopians than some random detailer.
