Heh heh, I'm usually in the minority when it comes to thinking detailing products that smell chemically are nice in that regard!



Since my SRP is *SO* old, I wouldn't be surprised if VOC regs/etc. might've precipitated a change, but OTOH it's one of those products that's been around forever and such stuff usually isn't altered in this sense unless it can't be helped.

I didn't find it to smell anything like a chemical factory. I have some wheel acid and other products that have a horrid smell when you use them. I guess like Accumulator said, I guess the likeness of a smell depends on the person.
 
Heh heh....seems like people's impressions of the SRP scent are all over the map! Sure wouldn't have thought of sun block lotion :think:



FWIW, I usually top SRP with Collinite, but FK1000P seems to work well too.
 
Unfortunatly, I have aquired a new customer with a nother GTR. Every GTR owner I have spoken with is very disastified with the CC on these vehicles. Water spots, bird bombs and swirls are near impossible to stop with this particular CC. I have tried almost every sealant and wax on my other two customers cars with no luck. They keep coming back with the same problems. One customer is ready to paint his car due to the frustration over the CC they have sprayed on these cars.



I was wondering if the three of you thought maybe this product would do the trick. I can pick them up locally at Pep Boys and Wallmart without paying a bundle and shipping. But I really don't need to add another sealant or wax to the arsenal unless this is going to do the trick on GTR's.



I was also looking into the Sonax products and their nano sealant. Im tired of polishing out these tricky *** CC's since most polishes act up weird and most pads grab like heck.



So if you think this might do the trick I might be willing to add just one more to the now two shelves devoted solely to LSP's

It doesn't smell like a product that was made to purposely smell good. Check out Megs products for example. Most of them are nice smelling and purposely made that way. #34 and NXT Glass Cleaner being two of their nicer smelling IMO. SRP smells like a chemical solution. I can't imagine they picked that sent purposely. I think they just made the product with the formula they use and the scent was a by product. They didn't care what it smelled like and neither do I because SRP is a great product. I don't use it for it's smell.

If Autoglym didn't care about the smell and just concentrated on making a formula that resulted in a great product than yeah it should smell like a bunch of chemicals. I think thats what they did and thats fine with me. I don't think they purposely made SRP smell the way it does like Megs does with their products.

Yeah I wouldn't be wearing any sun block that smelled like SRP.



The thing about topping SRP with Collinite Insulator Wax like I do is that the IW smells even worse than SRP. I find IW to be the worse smelling detailing product I use. The combo is great though. Not just in looks but ease of use to.

Being a new time user to Autoglym products, I can't answer your question. I think that they are cheap enough to give it a try. I think it is going to be a trial and error for you on this one. I am still waiting to see how the AG holds up to other sealants such as the BFWD or KSG.
 
I really like AGHD, the smell is interesting - can't decide what it reminds me of and SRP - clueless - no idea, not a bad smell, not one I'd like to smell either. Both products are very good and I consider them some of the best I've tried.
 
I'm about to use SRP for the first time and am curious to know how you guys are applying it by PC. Any suggestion on pad and speed would be greatly appreciated.

I applied mine by hand with a foam applicator, and removed with a Cobra White Edgeless MF. If you are also applying the Extra Gloss, I would recommend using a foam applicator also. It seemed that the cotton applicator (recommended) absorbed too much product.

It's not really finicky with regard to either pad or speed. I generally do it by Cyclo (single-speed machine), but by PC I'd probably use speed 4 or so as with other such products.



Pad-wise, I use a zero-cut pad, but that can mean all sorts of different things depending on the paint. I generally prefer a somewhat porous pad with all-in-one products like SRP, but that's just a personal preference and if somebody wants to use a tight finishing pad it shouldn't be a problem as long as the pores don't get all clogged/loaded up.
 
Applying SRP with the pad can turn in to a dust fest if you apply to much pad. I would get two pads at the ready, once they are primed you need only a 3-4 pea size drops for a door size panel.



You can always place the head of the pad on to an MF cloth, turn the PC to about speed 4 and hold the cloth. It should remove alot of excess product, as will squeezing the pad with an MF cloth.



I have used the Megs Polishing pad at speed 5 pretty effectivly, the main reason for this was b/c SRP is thick and i find it deals with the thickness pretty well. I cant really comment on any LC pads.

I'd try it with the white Cyclo "finishing" pads. I used the scare-quotes because those aren't the most gentle finishing pads I've ever seen.
 
Are you talking about the 2 sided Edge type cyclo pads? Mine are almost as soft as the LC gold pads, just a bit firmer and hold up to polishing where as a gold pad would wrinkle up.

No, I've never gotten around to trying out those newfangled pads (I might have some, though...or maybe I just got those in orange/green :confused: ). I was talking about some pretty old, regular, single-sided, flat white pads. Maybe the newer ones are different :think:
