Autoglym applicator question

The stuff makes my wipers skip like crazy ! It's driving me mad ! HELP!



Why does the rain-x make my wipers skip.. i've already changed the wiper blades and even tried cleaning them with that wiper-cleaner stuff, but it still skips !

Worse of all.. it rains every day ! :(
 
i dunno if goof off will do, maybe though. how aobut rubbing alcohol? maybe some washing with dawn will also work?
 
Irvin, I had the same problem. On the advice of YoSteve and SJ, I applied Klasse AIO on the windshield, and the problem was greatly reduced, including the excessive smearing I experienced with the Rain-X.



I might try the lighter fluid treatment to further improve the situation. I don't think alcohol will work - I remember Ron K saying that Rain-X and similar products are designed to resist alcohol as it (alcohol) is commonly found in windshield washer additives.
 
Irvin, I have had the same problem on several cars and have learned that RAINX should not be applied to the windshield for this very reason.



I use it on all the other glass but never on the windshield.:mad:



Griot's Garage has a glass polish that should remove it. You should also be able to use 3M Finesse It Finishing Material to remove and clean the windshield afterward with rubbing alcohol.

I too have a dislike for Rain-X. On my windshield it kept smearing when using the wipers, and made it difficult to see. Alcohol will not remove Rain-X, neither will Dawn. I don't know about Goof-Off, I never tried it. The lighter fluid will remove it because the naptha in the fluid will break down the silicone bond. You need to leave the fluid sit on the glass for a few minutes to do it's thing.

Lighter fluid will take off the Rain-X. Wash the window with lighter fluid, letting it work for a couple of minutes, then wash it off with a general cleaning solution, finally finishing up with your glass cleaner to get the rest of the cleaners off.

I have seen a solvent for sale at PepBoys that says it's specifically made to remove window treatments like RainX. It was located in the painting supply section.



Clean glass and good wipers is my recipe.

but you know what definately takes of Rain-X? Bird poop. last time I got bird bombed there where these spots of no rain x on my window. Not saying that this is what to do but if you're looking go out the the local parking lot and make some paste ;)
 
Lighter fluid is naptha. Basically dry-cleaning solution. It is totally harmless to your paint, and as long as you don't soak your trim in it for days on end, harmless to them also.
 
The Wipers jumping a little doesn't even compare to hardly having to use them on the Highway even when it's pouring.If you drive the Highways the majority of the time this stuff is a must. If your cruising most of the time on City streets (less than 40 mph) I agree it can be a pain, as it really doesn't work that well at these speeds.
 
I love RainX. It is perfect for freeway driving or any driving at night. Anything is better than having water sheet across your windshield. The secret to keeping your wipers from skipping is to not apply so much and deffinatly lift your wipers off the glass when you apply it. If you apply it before you wash your car and then wash your window with the brush or mit or whatever then you don't get the smears either. If it is put on right then you won't really have a problem with it. Give RainX another shot. It is a great product. I wouldn't drive without it.
 
I just started using Rain-X again myself and I am still up in the air about it. I am leaning towards liking it though...being that my wipers stink (new and old) and skip all over the place regardless of how much it has rained...(before applying Rain-X to this new windshield). I say give it another chance. :)
 
Use "Bon-Ami" cleaner for your windshield. It's very gentle, but yet cleans great, and it will also polish your glass at the same time. You can get it at just about any food store, Target, K-Mart or Wall-Mart.



Don't use any lighter fluid or caustic stuff on your car.



Just make a little paste with water and Bon-Ami and use a clean stiff sponge. Use vertical strokes and work from one side of your glass to the other.



You'll like the results.
 
Zaino glass polish with a PC and white pad.....zzzzzzzzzoooommmmm! 5 minutes, perfect windshield. Add Z2 and water rolls right off with no skipping wipers!

I've tried using the Bon-ami glass cleaning foam...cleaned it twice.

i also wiped down the wiper blades with some glass cleaner..



But... the smear is worst now !.. HOW come ?

maybe i should use the prestone wiper restorer on the blades to clean the residue ?

The applicators that come with autoglym HD wax are moist and that's how you are supposed to apply the wax , with moist applicators.
My question is what is the moisture ? Is it just plain water or some kind of QD
?

Yours was moist when you got it?
Mine was bone dry (and hard...)
