I ordered about $200 in Megs stuff, got home from work and the package was in front of my door

What if my building wasn't safe ? I would lose $200 ?

I would think I had to sign for it,if nobody was home they would leave a notice.

What's the deal,no signature ???

Also I ordered $400 from Autogeek/Classic ( Coming tomorrow ) will UPS leave on my door steps again ?

Any of you had any problem with UPS generally speaking ?

Have you tried tracking your stuff and trying to be home when it arrives? Also, if you see a UPS truck in your area, if you catch them while they're stopped and making a delivery, you can get your stuff directly off the truck. You can also have your purchase sent to your local UPS mailing depot and pick it up yourself.

I think in the 10 years that I've lived here, they left a notice one time. I've had to call them a few times after tracking and indicating a delivery, only to find they left it...just not on my door step. Then I had to run around the neighborhood to try and find my stuff.

I think the best bet is having things delivered to the local mailing depot and picking it up.

Usually they(UPS) leave a yellow notice,if you're not home.:nixweiss

I think it depends on the driver. I've ordered a case of wine and had it left by the door and a signature is required for alcohol. I called and complained to the UPS headquarters. Next case a month later they rang the bell. I think the drivers are anxious to finish their loads and just get lazy.

A friend ordered a computer and printer and that was left in his driveway. A signature was required as the total bill was like $2000.

The US ought to enter UPS guys in the Olympics. When I am home (rarely), I sometimes hear the horn and immediately begin moving towards the door. The doorbell is one millisecond later. As I'm opening the door to greet the delivery guy, I hear a fast-fading "Thank you" and the truck disappears. Amazing. Usually I'll get my stuff delivered to the office to avoid the possible heartache.

That's what insurance is for. My friend won an auction for a laptop and the UPS guy just left it on his doorstep. Needless to say, the package was gone by the time he got home and his money got refunded.

I think I can help here. I am a UPS driver. We are told to driver release the packages if its a single family house. We need to keep it out of sight. At Apartments or Condo's without private entrances we need to leave the delivery notice at the door. We do leave packages at apt offices. Many people dont realize we are on a very tight schedule and are given a tight time allowance for every stop. I try to get to know my customers and ask them where they would like there deliveries like front door, rear door, in garage, shed, next door neighbors. If you would like to have the package delivered to a specific spot just leave a note on the door. If I think it will rain or snow I will place the package in a platic bag. I have been a driver for 6 years now and I have never had a package stolen after leaving it at a door.

I called them(UPS) and requested not to leave the packages in the lobby or door.

I told them if nobody's home to leave a note.:nono

well, my dad works for snap on tools, so we get boxes all the time. basically, some boxes are worth hundreds of dollars, but no signature is needed for them. theyre just left in my garage, hwoever i feel its pretty safe because we have a gate + dog. in 20 years, we've never had a box stolen, nor mishandled. in fact, the UPS guy comes so often, he knows all of our names, even my dog's. my dog seems to like the UPS guy better than my mom, beccause the UPS guy always gives her bones.

I live in a safe neighborhood and I am glad UPS/USPS/FedEX leave our packages on the front porch and do not emphasize signature requirement. The house is off and elevated from the street and packages can not be viewed unless one walks toward the house. This normally sets the dogs off and deters further advancement by strangers. Never a problem here. On the other side of the tracks...:scared

In October of 2000, UPS delivered my Playstation 2 to my next door neighbor. Since this was two days after the launch date, they were selling for around $800 on ebay. The dude wanted to keep it and sell it, but fortunately his wife was a better person and brought it over. Heck, it had my name on it.

UPS has always just dropped stuff off. I think you can send in a form to have them make it more secure and you run by their office. FEDEX is the opposite. You have to put in a form to let them drop it off on the porch sans signature.

I'm lucky because there are shrubs and columns for the delivery guy to hide stuff from the street behind, and, I'm in an urban sprawl area between two cities. People who steal for a living have much nicer subdivisions on the way out to my place they can stop at and steal. We basically have no crime were I am. Heck, the trees are too short to be rolled also.

This must not be the case everywhere . . . I just received a shipment from the Autopia store (now using FedEx). The FedEx carrier just left the box in front of my apartment door. At least the UPS guy is bright enough to leave stuff at the apartment office.

Ah, I forgot that Fedex bought a bunch of small ground based delivery companies with all the money they made when UPS went on strike and just handed the industy to fedex for a while.

RPS, at least in my neck of the woods, is Fedex Ground. Yeah, different rules.

Never had a package lost by UPS, or FEDEX, but with the post office I wasnt so lucky.

Funny ...

I ordered 4 tires for the wifes car last month, and they were waiting at the door. The UPS driver tried to cover them with the welcome mat ... hehehe. Just ordered Vette replacement tires, cannot wait to see how they try to cover up 295-35-18's :D

I used to work at a small printing company and I was the person that accepted deliveries, so I would just have all my UPS stuff sent to work. Now, I'm at home and luckily can get the deliveries when "brown" rolls through the neighborhood, plus I kind know the schedule, usually around 10:30 in the morning, so if I'm out, I know to be back if I'm expecting something. But I agree, sometimes it is scary that valuable packages can just be left out in the open for anyone to pick up. Interesting that you can have UPS packages sent to their mailing depots.....does anyone know how you do that? Send to that address or something?
