Well has anybody here heard of this service from the dealership. My parents just bought a new vehicle and the dealership is trying to sell them on this. Any input?

Can you tell us what they are saying about it?....sounds like it could be a dealers specific thing....what kind of car is it?

well here is a link to their site. Auto Butler Customer for Life Program. The dealership said that my parents have to bring it in every six months for a reapplication of some sort of paint sealant and fabric protectant for $400 up front.

NOTE: The link is for help explaining the service only. I definitely am not promoting or trying to promote this product. Simply trying to get some unbiased iformation so my parents don't get ripped-off.

This alone scares me

What I see of this is a maintenance program that you have to keep up using their services...much like Ming that we discussed in a thread not long back...Perma-Plate is another one that comes to mind.

For the money that they are charging your parents can get their car detailed twice a year and have the same level of protection is my guess....that's not saying that this is bad for some people its great they have a level of insurance that their car / investment is taken care of..however there is a price for that and its not cheap

Yeah, I have been leaning against it since the beginning. I just wanted some opinions from detailors as I figure they are the best judges of this type of thing.

Again I don't think that these programs are bad for some people and your parents might be one of them...but for the money there are all kinds of ways to protect your new car...You could polish and seal the car every 3 months for them for a faction of the cost and give them the same level of protection over the life of the car..IMO

However you are talking to an audience here that thinks nothing of spending 8 hours in a garage cleaning a car that is already clean by most standards:D

I guess I should have also mentioned that I am not in Texas and am 1500 miles away, otherwise I would take care of it for them.

Maybe i will just tell them not to do it, and do it myself when i visit next year.

We had both the auto butler wash tunnel system and the buffing machine at the ford dealership i worked at.

Its a waste of money. Its just a cheap spray wax they spray on with a paint gun and the machine then buffs/wipes it off. The only upside for a dealership is that it can put out 2 or 3 times the amount of cars that a crew of 2 can. But the quality differs. Its all about the money at dealerships though.

For the amount of money you spend for one application you can buy enough clay and polish/wax to do it for 5 years.

I wouldnt recommend it. I do them all the time at the dealership i work at except its called "Permaplate" like BB mentioned. Iv posted this before but all the outside is a sealant that you can by off the shelf (we do it by hand tho, not the spray wax like TD mentioned), its identical to ultracoat wax which i use on my truck. Also for the paint sealant. For it to truly do its job. Its suppose to sit for 24hrs before you buff it off, which no one does because they want it back the same day. For the vinyl and leather, all it is a dressing with so called UV protection and prevent fading and leather failure but also many companys make the same thing you can buy off the shelf. For the carpet, it supposly protects from spills and stains. It does help, i have seen it repel coke and water. once you clean the area you have to reapply but i have seen a a lot of coolaid spill which do stain. Scotch guard works just as good if not better. We charge $1200 for this and you have to renew every 6 months to keep your warranty. Honestly, i think its a total scam but people like the way its sounds and go for it. I have friends parents ask me all the time if they should get it when they buy a car. I tell them no. Il tell them ill do a full detail, using products which do the exact same thing. It will look much better then if a dealership does it and much cheaper.
I hope this helps.
(just to put it out there, i do the permaplates the way theyre suppose to be done, i dont cut corners like most others :) )

$400 up front and some guy runs your car through a car wash .... wtf
