**Attention**News Flash About Dawn**

From pg. 113 of the August 2002 Motor Trend

Never use dishwashing soap to clean your vehicle. It removes grease all right, as well as any trace of protective wax. If you use it, break out the carnuba, you've got work to do.

With the debate about the affects of Dawn, I figured I better adress this topic, just in case people weren't already aware of the harmful affects of dish soap. And if you heard it in Motor Trend, it must be true.

*Disclaimer* This post is in no way meant to make fun of the serious question over the long term affects of a Dawn wash. It just goes to show what may be common knowledge here is not known everywhere. Go out and spread the detailing word.

Must be something in the air today. I just read two silly threads, this being one of them.

And I'd wash Dawn every day of the week and twice on Sunday as long as she wore an outift like that.:D

Well, considering the only time I have ever seen an Autopian suggest using Dawn was if someone wanted to strip the wax off thier cars, I really don't see the warning here. Of course Dawn is going to break down your wax. That's why we use it.

What Jngrbrdman said. No one at Autopia suggests using Dawn for your normal, weekly washing.

Someone today told me that it's a shame to use Dawn to do strip off wax. According to him, Dawn contains salts, which will cause corrosion, hence not suitable for use on cars. Is this true? I'm really confused...

Who said that?? I've never heard that before. If that were true then so many professional detailers wouldn't be using it.

I don't know if dawn contains salts but some dish detergents use Sodium Chloride as a thickening agent.
