Today I attempted to pull off my rims and clean the inside of them a little bit.


Alot of it came off on the inside however there are little dots kind of of baked on brake dust or whatever it is. However it looks alot better then it did when you are looking at the rim on the vehicle. My jeep has 38,000 miles so its never been done and I bought it at about 23,000 so I decided to see if I could get any of it off.

Let me know what you think and also if you have any ideas how to get the little speckles off. Also, sorry about the bad pictures I was in a hurry because it was getting late and I still only got the front 2 wheels done cause my lug nuts were so tight on the back.

On the last picture you can see that alot is gone, however you can see the speckles.
 
Try some meguiars hot rims, or even better if you have it, meguiars wheel brightener. If you have the WB then dilute 1:1 or 2:1 and let it dwell for 1 minute then agitate, and rinse. You must follow up with a car wash shampoo to nuetralize the acid. Once the wheels are cleaned you might clay, then polish and of course seal them.

In some cases the brake dust bakes into the finish and that might be the case with yours....Can you feel them on the surface or are they like pits in the metal....If you can feel them on surface the some clay might be the answer if they are pitted then nothing will remove them

I read the title then seen the pics with the trailor/chains and thought you used the trailor with the chains to pull of the wheels :lmfao

I dont have either one of those products however I will have to try and find them? Do I have to order the wheel brightner or do they sell that at like advanced auto parts?? I think I have seen the hot rims in regular auto part stores....



Also thanks for the replies....what type of polish and sealant would you reccomend for the rims?


And no I didnt use the trailer and chains to pull the wheels off!!! Haha!

Also it doesnt feel like its pitted, the rims feel like the inside surface is smooth..however I scrubbed with a hard brush and different wheel cleaner products including simple green and couldnt get it to come off.

You can get hot rims at any local store. Give that a shot first. For polish and sealant you can use whatever polish you want, AIO or poorboys pro polish would be nice, and then to seal use your most durable sealant. You might want a few coats.

You pretty much have to put on a pair of chemical resistant gloves and spray the wheels with acid wheel cleaner. Scrub the wheels with a stiff nylon brush and the brake duct will melt right off.
 
ok here you go..

Meg wheel brightener should be at any auto paint store that carries megs product you have to bu a gallon though.. cut it 1:2 or 1:3 do this twice with a brush..

wash with auto wash.

then use pro-polish with a cotten cloth or terry app. work small sections and it will be slow but worth it.

then use PB wheel sealant then your all done
these are mine cleaned evry 3-4 months

I got most of the baked-in brake dust that wouldn't come off with wheel cleaner by using clay, on the truck I bought used. So you might give that a shot as well.
