at age 23....

Hail the power of Quattro
I found out I have an ulcer. My stomach is killing me, but the prevacid should be kicking in full force in a couple of days. The worst part is that I have to change my diet completely. I don't eat a lot of unhealthy foods, but the ones I do eat are pretty much on the "do not eat" list. I'm not looking for sympathy or anything, I'm just sharing the good news.

Yikes! Never had one, but anything that requires you to give up certain foods has gotta be hell. Hope the medication helps!

Brother Brother I feel your pain literally.. Im 17 and I to have an ulcer. I really feel your pain. The key for me is to relax. When i am uptight like in school it hurts so i try to take deep breaths or do something to take my mind of of it. Feel free to PM me.

Greg

i cant really relax with my job. im an aircraft mechanic in the air force. my base has 70+ cargo aircraft capable of carrying 100+ people at any given time. my shop is in charge of the majority of the critical components and about 95% of the heavy maintenance. not to mention that sometimes i have to fix the aircraft with the crew waiting to take off.

greg- what type of antacid do you take if any?

TUms. I have a handful of pills to take for all my stuff but none of it seems to work that great for me..

Re: at age 23....and I am 25.

Last fall I went to a nutritionist for severe stomach problems. I am not going to get specific but that doctor did help me quite a bit. Here in Santa Barbara there is a strong presence in alternative therapies which I find to be somewhat relieving in knowing that when a doctor prescribes a med, it is for no other reason than you need it. The nutritionist gave me a similar grocery list and the list of foods to cross off my diet. The single bit of advice that I feel is responsible for my progress has been exercise; yoga and running. Both allow me to unwind and release endorphins. If I cannot do one I do the other, every day. I began with one or the other about three times a week a noticed a significant change so I stepped it up. All it takes is 45 minutes tops out of your day. I sleep better, I feel better and I can actually eat some of the foods on the "do not eat" side. Good luck with your ulcer. Take it seriously. HIH.

Luckily for me im 17 and have not and will not drink alcohal until im 21 and even then i dont knwo if i will. But the diet changing was/definatly hard for me. I do a really bad job at it too. Im making a pizza as we speak. but for me just relaxing does it. I realize that isnt possible for everyone. I have stopped having caffeine. I used to drink a mountain dew or 2 a day. Now i maybe drink 2 pops a week.

i think pop will be the hardest for me. i usually drink 3 or 4 a day, sometimes more. im going to try to only drink sprite and cut it down to 1 or 2 a day. i dont think ill be able to quit that immediately, but thats the only thing ill have a big problem with.

Re: at age 23....and I am 25.

When I came back from "Nam", I also had an ulcer (I was 20), along with several other "issues". Fortunately, I had one of the few good doctors at the VA at that time. He expressed the importance of a "bland" diet........... I followed it, and the ulcer went away. To this day, I rarely eat deep fried foods. I also stay away from "spicy" foods for the most part. Some of the drugs he prescribed back then, are available over-the-counter today.

Good luck.

Hey Audiboy,

Sorry to hear about the stomach problems. I have a cast iron stomach, consequently I am 300 pounds plus.

Today there are a lot of alternatives to soda. I am sure that you are aware of this but....the best thing that you can drink is water. Keep yourself hydrated. It will help your whole system.

Enough from Dr. Feelgood. Hope that you will start to feel better when the medication starts to take effect.

I am sure I have had them in the past. My stomach used to stay upset non stop. I started adding this stuff called acidopholous to my diet and my stomache has been much much better ever since.

On another note, try getting kidney stones at 23, or any age, NOT fun. LOL

Hope you feel better!

:bigups

Papaya & Pineapple Enzymes, or any enzymes for that matter. I might think of a few others when I am fully awake.

I have one as well! I really became noticable on my 24th or 25th birthday as a result of drinking entirely to many Captin & Cokes (and ended up praying to the porcilin gods) I took nexium for approx 2 weeks and was all better.. and now before I go out I just have to watch what I eat! I can still drink (in moderation) I guess you could say I am a lot more carefull as to what I consume!

I was also under a lot of stress at the time at work .... I finnaly said to myself I can't go on living like this..(constantly stressed out esp. at age 25.) I talked to my boss about it. He hired me an assistant and gave me a raise! Go figure! ...

Hang in there ..it will get better im sure of it!

I thought of another thing. Some poeple will tell you to drink cream or milk to make it better but this is only a temporary fix and can contribute to further problems.
