As if Armorall wasnt bad enough already...

They leave behind tons of lint! Even worse than paper towels! I'd be ashamed to admit I tried them, but give me a break, this was at least 2 years ago, when I was using Nu-Finish and thought Meguiars was premium stuff...

Ok, someone enlighten me.....I used AA back when i was a kid, i thought the stuff was awesome, ,and people still buy it, I dont though. What was/is/was ever wrong with AA ?

Basically they had an old formula that would dry out rubber and plastic over a period of time as well as deteriorate these parts. The formula has since changed but AA still has maintained their bad rap. They do have some decent products now but they do not focus on the higher end "boutique" products which is probably why many people do not give them a second glance. I think that leather or vinyl wipes in a can is a great idea. Paint wipes in a can doesn't seem like such a good idea but most people who use these are probably the "foaming brush at the carwash" users.

Armor-All got the bum rap when there was a lot of talk going around about it cracking people's dashes and upholstery, and wreaking all sorts of other havoc. Apparently there were lawsuits involved. This was many years ago.

I don't know any details, but if I had to guess, I'd say it had to do with the use of petroleum distillates as a solvent.

Today, Armor All is safe. Unless you buy the petroleum distillate containing UltraGhettoMegaShine version, they should be water based PDMS dressings. Their car wax was even highly rated by the Guru Reports Waxtest (and smells pretty nice too).

By law a product containing petroleum distillates has to say so, so I'd stay away from those. Even my 10+ year old bottle of AA Original seems to be a PDMS, so it must be ancient history by now. :nixweiss

Sure, it's still fun to snicker at Armor-All even today, but all things must come to an end eventually. :D

EDIT: Doh! Nagachampa got it already... oh well. :p

I thing you have to think about is that AA is not claiming to be some high-end company, they put out products for everyday people. These people are a completely different market than us, they are looking easy to use and something that cleans. If these people get these they are satisfied. And yes these are the same people that go to the drive thru washes. They don't care about the highest shine they are concerned about having their car clean. They cannot even tell if their car is waxed, they just want the dirt off and the inside clean. With AA their marketing is what you get. If you want to analyze marketing of auto products, Meguiars is the king, they have waxes in every drug store, grocery store, and discount chains. IMO they try to hard, coming out with too many product lines for too many people. But believe me I use many of their products, their name just doesn't carry much weight with non-autopians because of their consumer line.
