ARRRGH!!! Can't get windshield crystal clear

I HATE HATE HATE doing windows because of the haze that seems to return in a week (or less depending on the season).

What I do is very, very simple, and seems to work pretty well. I use two glass-microfiber cloths and Eagle 20/20. Spray directly onto the clean cloth, swipe to clean just like normal using circular motions. Motions don't really matter though, as I then proceed to use the clean, dry cloth and swipe to remove residue and buff. I press pretty hard, too.

I find the best time to do this is early evening, especially if it's humid. Then you can see the haze and work to remove it from every corner of the windshield. Now, keep in mind I'm JUST talking about the interior of the window. The exterior seems to be just fine 100% of the time, no matter what I use.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and it's driving me nuts. :furious: I spend the entire drive to work pissed off at that windshield! LoL

hahaha, that cracked me up. The worst thing is when you finally get it really clean then one HUGE bug splatters ALL over the place! Sometimes they hit the wiper which sends it all over the entire windshield. I even had someone spit tobacco out of their window but it rained soon after that so it was ok.

I was having problems with water spots on my side windows and used megs #83 with a cutting pad to remove them. My windows are pretty much crystal clear now.

Maybe a good polish would help you out some. Ive never seen a window that hazy before.

I just received my Glass Scrub, from Unelko Corp. If the methods prescribed above don't work, I'd try ordering that. It's only $5, and is supposed to deep clean the windows. I'll let you know how it goes.

This is just a random thought, but does anyone have any ideas as to whether different car companies' windshield are manufactured differently? Maybe car companies, or windshield replacement companies have different treatments they apply which could adversely affect our use with different products. Could this be why we each have different results? I've had similar problems with hazing that bamorris2 has had, but that was when I used Windex, and/or RainX. Since using Invisible Glass it's been clearer than ever. I also to the inside and outside two times each, buffing dry with clean microfiber towel. I have a Subaru Outback.

bamorris2,

You have a Ford F150, right? I live in Minneapolis area of Minnesota, humid summers. What climate are you in? I wonder if that has something to do with it.

In live near Riverside, California; about 90 miles inland from Los Angeles. Very hot summers (105+), but fairly dry. And yes, it's a 2005 F150 :up

I'm still wondering if that AW has something to do with it...

I recently replaced my windshield with an aftermarket one.

For some reason my hazing is occuring in the interior portion. It comes back after 2 days when I completely buff off the haze.

My car is 5 years old now so I don't think its the "out gassing" of the plastic dash. I also haven't put my climate control on defrost in a while so nothing is blowing on the glass either.

*shrugs shoulders*

By AW you mean your brand of auto wash? What wash do you use?

Okay, all,

How about this? Anyone who's mentioned similar hazing on their windshield, could you chime in with the climate you live in, and the glass cleaner you use?

If everyone with haze issues lives in dry areas that may say something.

AW = Duragloss AquaWax.

I have found that scrubbing glass with a sponge, Bon Ami cleanser, and water will help get rid of these mystery contaminants that make the weird haziness. Do it on the exterior glass before you wash. I have even done it on interior glass, being careful to use a minimum of water so it doesn't slop all over the interior.

I ordered a glass polishing pad along with my other stuff from autogeek, I havent used it yet but Im gonna give it a try this weekend. it was only like $8 or 9

Well I went down to Carquest on my lunch break, and got some of this...

I'll give it a try, probably tomorrow night.

Cool! I'll be interested to hear the report on that stuff. I just got Glass Scrub by Glass Science/Unelko.

Good news!!!

Last night (at about midnight LoL) I whipped out my PC with a 4" green polishing pad, and went to town using the Nu-Glass on my windshield. I must say, I'm quite impressed with this stuff. It did an excellent job of taking the haze and drip/run marks off the glass. I did 2 applications, just to be sure. It's funny, but the stuff smells exactly like Colgate toothpaste! Very minty fresh! In fact, I couldnt' resist the urge to go brush my teeth with the real Colgate after I was finished...

The only thing that I wasn't real happy about was the amount of dusting that this stuff gives off. Kid you not, the entire front half of my truck looked like it had some seriously heavy white paint overspray on it. Super super bad. So again, now at 12:30am, I backed my truck out of the garage, and proceeded to hose it off. The amount of white specs/dust was just not tolerable. I wouldn't have been able to sleep.

Anyway, on the way to work this morning, I saw absolutely no run/drip marks or haze!!! :) :) But I do still have a few smudge marks, probably as a result of doing it when I was dead tired. I'm sure that the windshield could use a proper shampoo/wash to get all the residue off.

But overall, a HUGE thumbsup to another great DG product!

Yesterday I tried using a magic eraser with Stoners and then a WW window MF twice. Excellent results, will be doing it this way from now on.

Watch it with the magic eraser. Mr. Clean magic erasers are just a foam impregnated with diatomecious earth. Very abrasive stuff and can scratch glass, paint, metal, basically anything it comes in contact with.
