Armor All is all you'll ever need

Had to laugh yesterday watching the Tigers/Red Sox game. They had a Armor All commercial for some wax they have out now. It was promoted by Tony Stewart as he was driving a new Camaro on a dirt track. The hood was done 50/50 with their wax and another wax. After the car was dirty from the track, it was hosed off on the hood, and the AA side all the dirt slid right off, while the other side was still dirty. They said their wax keeps dirt from bonding to the paint unlike "any" other wax.

Their wheel protectant spray is pretty top notch IMO (although Meg's has their own version of it now). I've had it on the barrels of my wheels on my DD and they've stayed remarkably clean. One of the better OTC purchases I've made.

Most of their stuff is just ok to marginal, but the original AA is nice on tires, and if Mother's FX didn't exist, it would be my favorite OTC. I recently tried their QD and its OK, but honestly I'd rather pay just a slight bit more and get something better.

OK, I know my credibility is about to tank but because I try everything, and most of it ends up at the hazardous waste drop off, but you don't really know unless you try things so, there was a thread here about Extreme Shield from AA. I bought it and tried it, you can search and find the other thread.

It's not a show car finish, in fact, it doesn't feel that slick, but it's about as hydrophobic as anything I've seen and the car I put it on did seem to stay more dust free - the person who's car it was mentioned that so it wasn't biased by my expectations. It goes on and off before it dries so it's fast to apply, one hand on one hand off, does no correction so if you can't finish paint properly without fill and glaze it'll be a whole lot less useful, but it's really not bad. It doesn't work like TV but nobody's stuff works like what's posted in video. (Even if it does, you can't begin to see the results at the low res of the typical computer screen.)

Has anyone here applied wax using a piece of Sham Wow?

I think the Extreme Shield is what was advertised. I have nothing against most OTC products, but I just thought it was funny how they were claiming that only their wax keeps dirt from adhering to the paint.

I have some of their tire shine gel which is pretty nice. It advertises itself as the longest lasting shine - while that's a bit of a stretch, it isn't a terrible product. It actually has a more mute of a shine that many on here prefer to the extreme silicone dressings.

PS - I do prefer Hyper Dressing (either 3:1 or 4:1, can't remember right now) for tires over anything else I've used, but I use the AA stuff because I can't bring myself to just throw away an at least half-decent product

Well I tried it. We were at Walmart last Sunday and I picked it up - wife gave me that "really?" look but she knows better than to question me on detailing. So I gave the old GTI a hot bath with Dawn and scrubbed her under belly trim with a soft brush. Read the directions and promptly did it my way. Bad move! I applied very generously via a LC gold pad and PC. After the car was good and covered I had a case of too many good ol NC fresh strawberries and spent the next 15 minutes reading Car & Driver. Upon returning I tried to wipe off the haze (what little there was) it was very grabby and fought a decent battle, but I ended up wiping down the car. Now, pulling it out in the sun, wife inspected and was really blown away, it gave a nice clean, shiny look, great reflections.

After a few days - thoughts are:

Follow directions, it's really like a coating - wipe on, level out, move on

Not slick, but then I've heard other coatings like Optimum aren't either

Does it repel? I'd say yes, we still have a little pollen and noticed that what settled on my car at work, had blown off by the time I got home.

Would I use it again, that, my dear friends is something I haven't decided. I like the look (a lot!) but I really miss the slick feeling of Poxy or BFWD. And, I'm old as hell school so this new fangled wipe on - wipe off - move on is going against many years of what wax is supposed to do -LOL!

But - and here's the big BUT, if this stuff is as sheeting as opposed to beading as I hope, then there's a lot of time saved drying a car after a wash and that's a great thing. And - how long will it last? The way I globbed it on, probably years! But we'll see.

Picked up a bottle at advanced auto yesterday, they had a promotion for $5 off $25 purchase, so after this rebate I essentially got it for $3. It may or may not actually be worth that much, but I'm game for anything.
