Hi guys
Just bought an S2000 in silverstone metallic and it has about 10 of these dark spots on the hood which range in size from a small fingernail to almost a quarter. The car was filthy when I went to look at it before purchase which mostly concealed these marks. I did notice the largest one at the time but didn't think much of it--thought it was just a bad hard water spot.
After getting the car home and giving it a two-bucket-wash and Meg's claybar, these spots remained. Even tried semi-abrasive rubbing compound with no luck. If you glide your finger over the spots, they feel a bit rougher than the surrounding paintwork. To me, it looks like some caustic liquid (maybe brake fluid?) was splattered on the hood and it's now etched into the paint. Pretty certain it has eaten through the clearcoat. Sitting under the hot sun in the dealer lot for months probably didn't help much either.
I'm not experienced with buffing so before I take the car to a professional (know anyone around Albany, NY?), has anyone here seen something like this before and if so, can it be repaired? I'd hate to have to repaint the whole hood because of these.
Any feedback welcome!
