Are cutting pads dangerous on a PC?

Here is a reply I got from Meguiar's tech support in response to a question I asked about the order of use of MPPC and Body Shop SFP, and pad selection with the PC.

"Dear Christopher,

Thank you for the email. To not use the use Cutting Pad. It is for Rotary use only. Try the Medallion Paint Cleaner with the Polishing Pad. Then the Swirl Free Polish with another Polishing Pad. Finally, use the Hi Tech Yellow Wax with a Finishing Pad. Again we do not recommend using the Cutting with anything but a Rotary Buffer. I hope this helps & have a great holiday.

Respectfully,

Jose Torres"

I have only used my PC once. I have the Lake Country 6 inch pads from CMA. I used an orange power pad and a white polishing pad. I have the yellow cutting pad as well, but have not used it yet.

It seems that some people here have used cutting pads with the PC. Is there any danger to these pads? Why would they be for rotary use only? Does this rule just apply to the cutting pad from Meguair's?

That's nuts. Use the cutting pad on the PC if the job requires it. Don't listen to him!

I used Medallion Paint Cleaner w/ a cutting pad and a PC on my Honda with awesome results in removing blemishes and stains. It doesn't do much for swirls or scratches.

Just be mindful of the product you are using with the cutting pad. It's common sense. Try a lighter routine first with a polish pad. If it doesn't work, try the compound pad. Just use a clean pad and a proper cloth for removal.

I use the cutting pad all the time on the PC. My first step for most cars in which I am detailing for the first time is DACP with a yellow pad. Obviously this isn't a blanket statement, but the majority necessitate this. I would say no danger to these pads.

Yeah, that's weird advice, I'm quite surprised a Meg's rep said that. Go ahead and use (any manufacturer's) cutting pads, just be careful not to overdo it and remove too much clear.
