Aquawax topper over Collinite?

Thanks to this forum I discovered Collinite. I am well pleased with the 885 Fleetwax product (good shine, beads like crazy, and very good durability). I've also read that Aquawax is a great product / topper. Question. . .will an AW topper affect the properties /durability of the underlying Collinite? Thanks in advance for your comments.:thx

I don't think AW will affect the Collinite at all. If anything it will enhance the durability.



I use 476S as my winter wax, and try to give it a boost of AW every month or so when I have good enough weather to wash. This combo will get me thru the winter with no problems.
 
You'll just lose the "Collinite" beading because you've now got AW on top. It would be the same if you used a QD over Collinite.
 
Yes, everybody has basically explained it. It will provide a "sacrificial" layer of protection, and will definitely improve durability. However, beading may not look as "perfect" as with Collinite, a carnauba wax.
 
Hmmm, so does this mean then that once the AW wears off, the collinite beading will reappear? Seems from the last answers then that the AW 'replaces" the Collinite? I'm a bit confused, sorry. . .
 
No, I don't believe the AW will remove or replace the Collinite. However, I don't know if the Collinite beading "reappears" after the AW layer is depleted.
 
Both of my daily drivers got two coats of 845IW in November, with a wipedown of AW every couple of weeks, depending on weather conditions, and I found that to be just fine for the New Jersey winter - we had two or three nasty storms that laid down just enough snow or ice to be messy for the next two weeks. That coupled with the normal crap in the atmosphere down here (Oil Refineries, farm dust, fertilizer, etc etc etc) seemed to be no match for the Collinite and AW pair. On the Eldo, it still beaded up to two weeks ago when I polished it off for the spring.

Haven't tried it with AW... but FWIW, Griot's SpeedShine and FK425 seem to have very little detrimental effect on Collinite's beading. No, it's not quite the same, but it's still mighty good and it still does the self-cleaning thing pretty well. And that extra sacrificial layer does seem to help the already stellar durability (just as JimHare discovered). The layers of Collinite on the Blazer lasted 8 months that way, including winter, and didn't *really* need redone when I Sonus-greened it and applied a fresh coat. But yeah, the beading of an untopped, and *fresh* coat of Collinite is in a league by itself.
 
I have collinite 845IW on my car and I also use FK 425 as a quick detailer. My experience has been different in that, usually 2 coats of 845 last about 6 months but since I've been using FK 425 it has only lasted 3 months. I wonder if I am remonving the 845 by using the FK 425. Not a big issue since I don't mind applying again every 3 months. The FK 425 does add a great shine and seems to keep dust off longer than without.

That's interesting, and worth taking note of. I didn't experience that on the two Blazer panels I was testing 845 on (pre/post VOC versions), but it's a good reminder that YMMV.



Speaking of YMMV, two coats of 845 never last 6 months for me anyhow, I always need to apply more than that for truly special durability :nixweiss

I concurr. Accum, I don't know if its me, but I've been getting 425 to bead on its own, as good as Meguiars new QD. I've got a future test of 425 vs. UQD over Sonus Paint cleaner coming...

Yeah, I've been cheating on my wife's A8- On the lower plastic portions of the bumper covers I've just been applying FK425 after each wash. It's actually working out pretty well, or at least she hasn't said anything yet :o No, it's not the best approach, but it sure is quick and easy.
