Aquapel Update

This is an update on my experience with Aquapel by PPG.

I had it professionally applied on my 2005 Lexus ES330 about eight months ago.

We just traded the ES330 in on an LS430 and the Aquapel was still performing well.

A few notes:

This is not really like Rain-X. Similar at best.

The Aquapel does bead and flow water accross the windshield, however not with the ease of a very fresh coat of Rain-X. However unlike my experience with X the Aquapel caused no skipping, no streaking, and had absolutely no detrimental effects whatsoever. It acted to aid the wipers in removing water more cleanly, helped to lubricate the wipers aiding in making them totally 100% skip free, and made cleaning the tar, bug guts and so on off of the windshield a breeze.

I have already personally applied it to my LS430 on all external window surfaces. One Aquapel pad will cover a large windshield and two large front windows. Also a couple of headlights. My rather large car took two pads to thoroughly treat all of the windows.

Applying it is very very easy. I made sure to do it in a well lit garage.

I cleaned, clayed, and cleaned the windows again before applying the Aquapel.

I readied a couple microfiber waffle towels, cracked the first Aquapel into use, and applied it to the front windshield, front windows, and headlights. I then immediately removed all excess Aquapel with the first MF towel. I then polished the glass perfectly clean with the second MF. No problems at all. Very simple and without a ton of effort.

I repeated the process with the second Aquapel applicator on the rear three glass surfaces.

Whole process including cleaning and claying took about 30 minutes.

I purchased mine in a four pack at TireRack . com.

Aquapel 8 month test 10/10. Great product with no downside whatsoever. :woot:

Hope this info helps all of you other Autopians!!

If you meant the Aquapel read my post towards the bottom.

If you meant my Lexus LS430, I purchased it at Bobby Rahal Lexus in Mechanicsburg, PA.

Great dealership. My salesman was Sam Garisto. He has worked out well for us.

Aquapel is a good product, I bought over 20 packs of it.

extremely expensive and durability is not that great unless you don't clean

your windows with stoner or such.

when yours run out, go back to rain-x and clean the windows with stoner,

or here is a tip that always works, applied rain x to clean windows, let it sit while

you clean the wheels, then wash your car like you always do, the windows will be streak

free and treated at the same time.

Considering that Rain-X is not cheap and that Aquapel lasts months, I can't see why you consider it extremely expensive. Pus you don't get any of the Rain-X disadvantages.

I think to get either product to work as advertized you need to properly clean the glass before application.

Aquapel has now been released to consumers..so it is available at some parts stores....it is by far the best rain repellent going....I can not see how stoners removes it..since washer fluid is much stronger as far as solvents sine its made to not freeze so its loaded with Alcohol and it never harmed Aquapel on me...

I get mine at either Carquest or pep boys for 7.95 a tube....its cheaper on ebay...

I have been using aquapel for 7 years. I absolutly love it. It's durability is great.

Harry, how often do you use Stoners to clean your glass? I use Stoners as well, but not very often and I have found no ill effects.

I apply it once a year to my car and my familys vehicles.

I use stoner most the time, in the aresol can and the normal sprayer

some times I use it btween washes 2 to 3 times.

it might be my preprations are not that great?

Hmm, The price of th aquapel went down since my last purchase was a year ago,

I will sure go back to this thing, whats the proper process befor applying it?

1-Clay

2-Razor blade

3-Alchol cleaner?

4- apply Aquapel?

not exactly sure what the difference would be but the instructions with Aquapel say to wipe only with paper towels. It makes a great upsell to clients.

I used Aquapel last week on my GLI and love it (I have also used it on some of my other cars in the past). My wipers clear the winshield with no skipping or streaking. I treated all my windown with it and now am even thinking of treating my side view mirrors. I stand by this product 100% because I see it more as a window specific sealant. I have noticed since using Aquapel that I no longer get the window etching from hard water.

I love Aquapel but you've got to make sure your windshield is really clean, especially if you've used something like Rain-X on it before.

The first time I used Aquapel I cleaned my glass with a couple applications of Windex followed by some Stoners, but the Aquapel performance just wasn't there for long. The next time I used either straight IPA and/or Mineral Spirits followed by Windex and it worked out great.
