Aquapel - Does it actually do anything?

Huh. OK. I'm sure not seeing anything to show I've got anything on the glass.

I prepped well, and this car hasn't had rain-x on it in the time I've owned. I scraped, scoured and chemically stripped the glass to make sure it was very clean.

When I applied the Aquapel I applied it just as the instructions stated. Broke the vial inside, and wiped with the applicator pad. Then buffed off the wetness. Some spots did dry before I buffed, and were a bit hard to get wiped down, but not particularly. It's not like it really hazed, just a little.

But like I said, darned if I can see any results to show I did anything. Water sticks to the glass like it always has.

I'll try it again this weekend, but I have to say I am most underwhelmed by Aquapel so far.

Maybe I've got a bad batch? Maybe it goes bad after time? Dunno. There's no smell to the wet pad. Really, it was like I wiped down with water.

Bootleg Aquapel?

The stuff I use has a distinct odor. I guess it's kinda like rubbing alcohol.

I find that the best place to purchase Aquapel is on eBay rather than AG. That said, the cleaner was cheaper on AG.

I ordered some from eBay once, my vials (inside the applicator) came 'pre broken' for me. The pads had no indication they were used. Seller didn't believe me so I got ripped off on that one. So unless the company that makes Aquapel now is selling direct via eBay I'll order elsewhere.

To those of you who swear that this stuff is wonderfull, what does it actually do for you that makes you say that?

On my personal car when I hit ~45mph or so in a rain storm there is no need for wipers.

Have you driven in a rain storm yet or are you basing your results on rinsing alone?

i was curious one day and took a whiff of the aquapel spreader in the middle of application one time, and i about fell out. It burned my nostrils. :doh

I find that RainX windshield fluid leaves some type of funky film on windshields-anyone else notice that?

Yes, super annoying too cuz that chatter-inducing build-up can be quite difficult to remove. I refuse to apply RainX to the windshield of any of our cars. I do use it on the other glass surfaces where I haven't had any issues or concerns.

I did buy it off ebay. Certainly didn't look like bootleg or used. Had some sort of vial inside that I broke to wet out the pad. Wonder if I've still got the old pad. I got 6 so I'll try again, and cut the next one open so I can look at the vial inside. Won't get a chance tonight.

I've driven the car in the rain, and the mist. There's no special rolling of the water droplets off the glass. I absolutely have to use the wipers to get the water off.

when i put my aquapel on last May(in 09), i clayed the glass, polished the glass, cleaned the glass, then applied it. Pretty much like prepping paint for sealant.

I've used rainx and aquapel and aquapel blows rainx out of the water. That awful haze that you get at night under street lights using rainx is dangerous. That chatter is just flat out annoying.

rainx=turtle wax; aquapel=#16

It sounds like it was applied incorrectly, as Aquapel works very very well. Did you have Rain-X or similar on your windshield at some point? This will completely block out the Aquapel and it won't bond. It may also have sat on windshield too long. This can also slow the performance. Aquapel IS MUCH BETTER than Rain-X, sounds like a technical problem with installation. Best of luck.

Here is a hint when using Aquapel. If you are doing your windshield, prep, apply, remove, and reapply. Yes 2x application. I find it very effective.

Hint... ya gotta move right along and the second app will be weaker but still enough to hit the whole windscreen.

Bon Ami is what the folks at Aquapel recommend if you ever need to remove Aquapel. So I'm going to use Bon Ami to get the glass really clean next time before I apply it. I get at least 6 months out of Aquapel and never have streaking when it wears away like I used to with rain-X.

I'm also going to put Aquapel on our new frameless glass shower door.

Where can I find this Bon Ami product? TIA
