Applying Zaino Sealant (What do ya'll do) Pics included

For me it's usually difficult to see Zaino spreading. It is SO light that I don't know if I'm using enough product or not. I know using too much product makes it a PAIN to take off but I wanted to show ya'll the ammount I use for my hood and see if this looks reasonable.

How much I load my pad with b/4 spreading on hood.

I just dab a few dots here and there. What do other people do? Also I spray the pad once with Z6 before putting the Z2-Pro on the pad. I usually spray the pad about 3 times while doing my entire car. When ya'll apply to the pad do you fold the pad over so that when you first start spreading the product you don't get most of it in one area? My technique I believe is lacking and could be perfected with your help. I also find myself using more pressure with the pad once it starts getting hard to spread over the paint.

This is the shot of my hood so you can get an idea of how big it is...

Here are a few shots of my 350Z with 3 layers of Zaino Z2-Pro. This was the first time I used polish b/4 applying Zaino. My steps were:

Wash with Meg's Gold Class Shampoo

Clay with Clay Magic

Polish with OC and yellow propel pad then finish with OP and green propel pad

IPA wipedown

Z1 Polish Lok then Z2-Pro wait 24 hours Z6 then another application of Z2-Pro then repeat till I have what you see now 3 layers. How did I do?

blast you! i've always wanted a Z, and in that color...but babies and no back seats don't mix...yours look great.

Looks like you're doing it just right. I use the same amount of Z2Pro on the pad, and I always fold it over in half to distribute it evenly across the pad. It took me a while to realize that one thing I was doing wrong when I first started using Zaino was applying too much pressure to the pad. I was happening subconsciously, but you really only need to apply the smallest amount of pressure on the pad while applying it.

You should consider trying out the Z8 spray for special occasions. It's fantastic over Zaino.

Looks fantastic...love that Zaino. You could speed your process up quite a bit using ZFX mixed with the Z2PRO. I apply the mixture with PC wait a bout 1 hour...hand buff with MF, then spray and buff with Z6...then repeat 2 more times...all in one day.

Once upon a time, I had started a thread that had some pictures showing the method I used, but I think the thread got munched in one of the server crashes . . .

So, no pics, but what I do is to apply a half-dozen or so dots of Z around the applicator, then tap the applicator on the panel I'm working on in four or five places, spaced roughly the same distance apart. This leaves little dots of Z on the panel. Now, go ahead and apply Zaino to the panel normally . . . as you move the applicator back and forth, and hit one of the spots you "kissed" with the applicator, you'll pick up the little deposits of Zaino and spread them about, which (in my experience) leads to a nice, thin application. Also, about every second or third panel, I spritz the app with Z6 to keep the pad gliding along.

The only drawback that I've found to this technique is that it tends not to work if the paint surface is warm (the spots where you dab the applicator about start to set up before you get around to spreading them).

FWIW,

I do the same. The PC speeds up the process. You will use a bit more Z2 though. ZFX also greatly enhances the finish and duribility. I find that ZFX leaves the surface with more slickness and the finsh seems "harder". Not to mention you can do 3 coats in the same day! I always use ZFX now whether it be 1 coat or 3. Primeing the pad witha spritz of Z6 works great for me too. Just remeber....whisper thin!!!! :bigups

I do one dime sized dot in the upper center area of a Pak ultrafine app. I like applying it by hand since I feel I can get it more even than with a PC.

I read that it is better to wait 24 hours between each coat of Zaino. Does the ZFX reduce that time so you can apply 3 coats in a day?

I have the Zaino z1, 2, 6, 7, and ZFX right now but have not used it because i am waiting on my PC to be refunded so i can buy another one since the first one broke within a few hours of using.

Yes..they suggest 30 minutes. works great.

You might want to try a foam hand pad, soaks up less product. Just a few drops per panel is all it takes once the pad is primed.

What Scott Said... the foam pads with the built in handle work very well and allow application of a very thin coat :bigups
