Applying wax by hand?

Get the MSDS report on Zymol products and look REALLY hard for enzymes.

Soft waxes (hand applicable waxes) have a texture that allows them to worked by hand. They have a granulated solid (maybe carnuaba) that will mix with the solvent when friction (rubbing the product) is applied.

In general soft textured waxes 'might' product a slightly wetter look (generally higher oil content) 'might' not last as long as a more traditional wax.

Over all it probably makes no difference. If you are using a wax that recommends being applied by hand, it probably will give you the best results for that wax, but overall there is no real benefit other then dubious marketing and false hype.

...Basically ...[there are].. enzymes in Z wax..[that].. are designed to bond to the paint..

Huh, I never heard that before

So you're calling BS in the Z wax enzymes?

I don't mean to turn this into some flame-fest, just trying to get it straight. So it's *NOT* a matter of needing to melt the (hard) wax to keep it from marring? I thought that people had tried applying Vintage/etc. with an (unheated) applicator and had instilled micromarring :nixweiss

Heh heh, I'm putting a bit too much interest/time into this; it's not like I use Vintage anyhow..

I'm not calling BS on anything because I should clarifiy that I don't know and I don't care. However people I know (and trust) have told me, but we know how accurate that can be...

Hand applied waxes should be rubbed to almost a vaseline state in your hands, and this is a matter of friction (which "melts" the solids into the solvent). Take vintage and put it in your palm and it will not "melt". Take it in sun (above 98.6 degrees) and it will not activate and melt (they couldn't even ship it to you if it did).

But then again Zymol does claim they have 70% carnauba by volume when the fact is that if it was over 35% by volume it wouldn't even work.

Heh heh, I probably shoulda chosen my wording a bit better lest I start a downward spiral :o And yeah, life is too short for me to get very interested in this sort of thing either ;)

Thanks for the insights on how the Vintage behaves. Yeah...there's only so much credence you can put in a product's ad-copy (I too have wondered about that ~70%).

Well..........If my friend Accumulator had bought Vintage ............like he said that he would.............x months ago.............maybe we would not have these questions that are not answered as of yet.

Truth be told, Vintage comes in a fairly soft state (for paste waxes), and only requires very light handling with your fingers in order to spread it consistently. However, based on my experience, there is some evidence that the hand applied waxes will require manipulation in order to soften it so as to apply to the panel. Zymols also have been known to cause micromarring when they have been applied incorrectly (including some personal experience....).

The real question is...........what will it take to finally get Accumulator to break down and buy Vintaaaaaaghhe??? Lol!

Heh heh, hold on there bud....I didn't say I *would*, just that I was tempted :D

But then I got tempted by FK1000P, bought it, and that stuff's just sitting around wainting for me to figure out which vehicle to use it on.

Same old response (not to say "excuse" ;) )...the Jag is living with my mechanic and I still haven't done anything with the RX-7 (might sell it to a pal of mine). I'm busy with the drivers and I'm *NOT* putting anything like Vintage on *those* :grinno:

Hey [messing] around with you on this topic is more fun than actually trying out the wax could ever be anyhow :LOLOL
