applying QD, specifically z6 and z8

I'm a little confused, and don't want to mess up. I also didn't know if this goes here (technique)? or in the products discussion (QD)?

anyways, what is the proper way to apply a QD? specifically z6 and z8... now I know z8 isn't a QD, but is z6 technically? Can I use it like a QD in between washes?

I started claying before QDing... so I've always been in the habit of having everything completely lubricated.

Is that the same process for QD? zaino says to apply it very thin, but how do you do that with a spray? isn't a spray localized little dots?

They say that it takes less than 1oz to apply an entire car. does that mean basically 1 full sprits per panel?

Is it like wax, where once you have a good amount on your towel you can spread the wax on more baren parts of the panel?

I am terrified of micro-marring..

can you guys help me out to ease my mind? :sosad

thanks

You have a lot of questions and I guess I will just make my answer as simple as possible. I use Z6 after washes and do so by drying the vehicle completely then take the bottle and spritz the panel in a sweeping motion to put it on very thin, then I buff until the panel is clear and there are no streaks. After applying Z6 or if I do a quick ONR wash for a special occasion then I go over the vehicle with Z8 to give it a little extra pop. Hope this helps a little....don't be afraid of micromarring if your wash technique is good and you use quality towels you have nothing to fear. Micromarring is inevitable but with proper technique you will greatly reduce your chances. If you're not currently using ONR I would reccomend it, it has greatly reduced washed-induced marring for me.

I'm not using ONR at this point. still going with z7 and lambswool mits. but I do plan on getting ONR at some point, just don't have the money to get it right now.

Thanks for your reply!

I would not use Z8 as a qd because it has no real cleaners like Z6. If you want to use Z8 in between washes, use Z6 first. As far as using the right amount of product, use that thing in between your ears to judge how much you need. Go out and try the stuff and experiment a little! :hifive:

bump :) (are we allowed to bump our threads?)
Well, you won't get banned for it, but you might get a talking to from a moderator. :)

In general, it's best to give your post a day or two to get replies, and if you haven't received an answer to your question, rephrase and/or clarify it rather than giving the thread an empty "bump".

'Cause an empty bump . . . well, that's a paddlin'.

No problem, and no need to apologize. Hell, I'm just happy to do something as a moderator that doesn't involve banning a hit-and-run spammer for a change. :)

:welcome to Autopia!
