Is the apc pre soak step really necessary before claying a car? I feel it isnt except for really bad paint surfaces. Whats your opinion.

Well, I've never heard of the "APC pre-soak step" prior to claying, so I'm not sure what it's purpose is... other than to clean the paint? IMHO, if the paint needs that kind of pre-cleaning, one should probably be using a chemical paint cleaner. :dunno

I haven't heard of it either. I would have to agree with Boss about the chemical paint cleaner though.

I'm not sure but could this apc pre soak just be another term for a fallout remover? Normally at a dealership you would wash the vehicle with the fallout to loosen and remove the heavy raildust, fallout, etc Before you clay.

Are you referring to something along the lines of prepsol to completely remove any pre existing waxes or sealants?

yeah, its to clean the paint. As far as the chemical paint cleaner, under what circumstances do you usually use that?

I sometimes do an APC pre-soak on actual dirty areas of clients vehicles. For tarred and bugged vehicles, I dry the area after washing, soak with Bug and Tar Remover for 2-5 mins, then wipe away with a cheap MF or Terry Towel. Proceed to rewash the area to neutralize the surface, then dry and clay as normal.
