APC Nightmare

Crossfire

OK last weekend was bad(ruined my DA), so I thought this weekend would be better. I was just finishing up cleaning my Nitro wheels and was putting my Adams waterless cleaner away. I had bought a Griot spayer rack a while ago and it neatly stored my Adams detailer, Poorboy's Bug Squash, Adam's Waterless Wash, Adam's APC and my Dodo Detailer. I noticed something red on the bottom of the Wash and took a look inside the rack. To my horror something was leaking inside and was eating the paint. I quickly took each bottle out wiping it and checking for leaks. When I picked up the APC it was dripping. I wrapped it in with what I had a (good MF towel) and placed it on my wood bench(see it coming!). I then unscrewed the shelf and started to clean up the shelf. The paint had all bubbled up. By the time I got back to the bottle the APC had soaked through to the stained bench top and caused the surface of the wood to raise.
I don't know whats in the particular batch of APC(new gallon I just opened) but I dilute it to 50% before I put it in the sprayer. I work with acids in my lab and have never had an issue like this.

I'd contact Adam's because they claim all of their stuff if safe especially on paint. But I've had a couple of run ins with Adams workers that will prevent me from buying from them again until they are gone. It's a shame but they are overpriced IMO anyways.

I have sent an email to Adam about this. I can't believe how it just ate through the paint of my rack. I'm glad I haven't used it very much. Imagine using this stuff to clean your engine compartment. I should be grateful that I didn't have a worst disaster.

50/50 is pretty strong. I thought those racks were powder coated for some reason. I only have the rack to hold nozzles

Damn that sound like something a heavy duty degreaser would do. Now that I think about it, Ive got degreasers that wouldnt even do that. Must be some stout stuff.

Its strong stuff! I remember having bought some a while back in a individual spray bottle that I used to use straight. When I took this from the gallon I diluted it to 50% distilled water.

A good APC will do that. Straight Purple Power will strip paint. I actually use it as an inexpensive paint stripper for my other hobby.

If your paint was dry (not rinsed down and still wet with water) than the likelyhood of etching is much greater. I think even at high dilution if the car was wet that may not have happened. Still stinks to hear though, hopefully Adams gets back to you soon!

Some chick I spoke to on the phone with Adams had no clue what the hell she was talking about, yet she's tech support?! I dunno, Adam himself just seems very arrogant. Doesn't shock me one bit that he hasn't gotten back to you.

I'm sad to see that Adam's did not response. This stuff ate through two spray bottles, destroyed the finish on a new shelf, raised the grain on my workbench, destroyed one of my good MF cloths and I'm still sitting on a gallon of the stuff. I didn't ask him for anything. I'm guessing that they have had this problem before. I have heard the color is different on the newer bottles.

I know that Lynn Matthews is with Adams in their Customer Service Department. I am surprised they have not gotten back to you.

I work during the day with no break(teacher). I haven't had an opportunity to call them. I was hoping the email would get a response. I plan on calling next. I'm not trying to make trouble for them. I love some of their products and have used them for years. I was just very confused over why this happened. It could also have been much worse, if I had sprayed it on my wheels or engine compartment. By putting it on this forum I was hoping that someone may have heard of this before.

Try calling them on your lunch time if possible, but with a email they should have response to yours by now. Try again.

I finally made contact with Adam going through Lynn. It sounded very much like he did not believe me. I responded to his comments and asked for a new spray bottle and a new MF towel to replace the one damaged. I felt like that was fair. I also offered some suggestions on how to test what happened to me. I have received no further response. I am seriously considering no longer purchasing from them.
