Anything new in the leather cleaning/conditioning world?

Hello gentlemen,

So, I'm pretty much out of Z9/Z10 and as much as I love the stuff I'd like to try something new. I was thinking Sonus products or Ultima products (if I can bare the price). But I've also heard good things about Surf City Garage products.

Any recommendations?

I use allbrite leather cleaner to get grime off leather door panels.... followed by leather creme to preserve and moisturize

I also like the Meguiars leather wipes, they're quick and easy, work well, and available at any pep boys if you dont have a professional detail supply around

danforz, have you tried the DG Leather cleaning and conditioner? I'm not familiar with Z9/Z10, but many people on here say they're pretty similar. I really like the products and you can get it from your local CarQuest for less than $15 after tax. For me, I'm curious about trying out Leatherique to see if it lives up to the hype it recently received on this board. Unfortunately I have a ton of Meg's Detailer Cleaner/Conditioner to use up before I even think about buying more product.

i would recommend leatherique.

DG leather cleaner is very very mild compared to Z9, condition has very similar smell to Z10 but lasts only couple of days.

Leatherique is amazing. It conditions new leather to look even better and it can revive old leather to almost like new condition. There is nothing better that I have used (excluding leather masters, I have never used them before). At first Leatherique can seem expensive, but if you buy it from their website (which is the best deal) you can get both products in bulk for about $150.00.

We clean the leather with a white towel and steam only. Apply conditioner while still warm and the pores are expanded. Marvelous, and quick.

Of course, the steamer is a bit pricey... but it works efficiently.

This is such a basic concept that I have seen mentioned here many times before. It seems like people have had a good amount of success with it. It sounds quick, and with using the heat (which is what Leatherique needs to work), it just seems to be the best method. I have yet to try it for past fear of damaging the leather, but I think that I will give it a test shot on one of the back seats in my car.

I have been using the old Woolite solution (10:1), a brush, and some Lexol for my regular details. This has been my method for a while with most details.

Another vote for Leatherique. Last weekend I did the front seats in my 2006 Escape Hybrid, one with Leatherique and the other with Zaino Z-10 Leather in a Bottle. The Leatherique seat was noticeably softer. The Zaino does smell better.

The Zaino smells like chemicals, and when you wash your towels the whole load smells like Z10. It works reasonably well but I'll try the Leatherique.

Sonus leather cleaner and conditioner are great. This stuff restores the new leather scent rather than using heavy perfumes that make your car smell like chemicals or like an old boot.

Jimmy,

I have a low end steamer and am interested in how you use if. Can you give me some idea of how you use the steamer, which attachment, etc.

I really appreciate your help.

Chances are good that you have a 3" triangular brush attachment. And a white terry cloth that fits over the brush. drag/push that combo (with steam)over one well lighted leather panel slowly, making several passes. On the second pass you'll see the texture of the leather change with the heat. The white towel will blot/absorb the oil and dirt, leaving a clean surface. Immediately (by hand-no applicator) liberally apply your conditioner of choice.

Do this once a month on your own seats. Wonderful.

Good Luck.
