What do you do when a plastic/vinyl non painted surface is right up next to a painted surface?

Here'e a link to picture that shows the vinyl (whale tail flare) butted right up to the black paint:

Normally what i do after I wash the car is apply 303 or other protectant on the rubber/vinyl parts of the car before I wax. This helps when I accidentally get some wax on one of those parts, because it's easier to wipe off.

It's a classic/muscle car auction that occurs 3 times a year. Once in Scottsdale AZ, once in Florida, once in Las Vegas.

Finest muscle cars in the world are usually auctioned there. Normally there are about 1800 cars there... ALL are near perfect, high-dollar vehicles!
 
I think they are one of the biggest car auctions in the US and when they have a auction you can see at the speed channel.
