I have been contemplating stepping up from a PC to a rotary. While checking out a few different websites for prices, I came across the Makita B06040. Its The machine can run as either a DA or a rotary with the flip of the switch. Does anyone have any experience with this machine?

I've seen that and have bcome interested myself... Its 300 bones so unless my PC or Makita break down, I don't see myself spending money to get it yet. I would love to hear reviews as well.

my that thing is expensive . . . just like a PC but flik a switch and bam! small rotary . . . .

i wonder how much it weighs?

the rotary speed s only 675 rpm's...so it is not real good for any heavy corrections...

Plus you can not change the backing plate to any other type..just the makita type....so you are basicly stuck with the factory BP...

and I also think the orbital throw is shorter than the PC....PC is 5mm and makita is 3.5mm

You might want to also consider the Makita 9227. Great tool in the right hands.

Ranney ,The Makita 9227 is the one i own ,its a great tool ... :2thumbs:

To clear a few things up here the BO6040 doesn't have a rotary mode, it has a random orbit mode and a random orbit mode with forced rotation. So in it's "rotary" mode the pad still moves in a random orbit but adds in the rotary like spin. The forced rotation mode can do about 80-90% of what a rotary can do, all else being equal.

Also the orbit diameter is 7/32" or 5.5+mm.

It is a nice machine that for me has lived up to the Makita quality i've become used to with my 9227.

For the average enthusiast it probably isn't necessary, especially considering the price. If you already have a PC I would recommend someone purchase a rotary instead because you can do more correction for less and you already have the PC for finish polishing.

If you are more serious about detailing or are detailing for profit I would skip the PC altogether and get one of these and a rotary. The random orbit mode of the BO6040 makes the PC seem like a kiddy toy. Much more power, no bogging and smoother operation.

The backing plate is a 6"er and fits perfectly with the 7.5" LC style pads.

i have one and i like it a lot. granted, i don't do a ton of stuff with it but it definitely breaks down my polishes faster than the same pads on a pc. my impression is that it works faster than a pc and does a lot of what a rotary would do without as much threat of damage. i'm a big fan, but it is expensive.

Hey guys,

I've had one of these units for some time now, and I can tell that it is pretty effective.

However, when in forced rotation mode, I do find it can be a lil squirrely. In fact, I've

been using one about 1 1/2 years and still have to be judicious how I use it. Ironically, I

find I have better control with the rotary (which is way more tougher to learn to work

with. Still though if you are using thick pads, you can negotiate most panels with ease

in either mode.

All that said, if I had it to do all over again, I would shoot for a cyclo.

Just added a BO6040 to the tool box(PC,9227&DW849). Hope to use it in the next couple of weeks. Would be nice if someone made a smaller backing plate.

I do a lot of Jeep Wranglers and the sides are easier to do with a 4" pad then a 6.5"-7.5" pad
