anyone tried surf city garage yet?

I've been eyeing the Surf City stuff since I found out about them a few months ago. I did a search in all the detailing forums I'm in, including this one and there was very little out there. Then I find out the local Advance Auto started carrying them. Needless to say, I was very happy.:woot2:

I was driving by Pep Boys a little while ago, stopped in, and got SC Glass Cleaner, Road Trip, and Hot Rod QD. I figured that I should get some, since all the cool kids on the block are giving the products good recommendations. Got a Brinkmann, too. Can't wait to try the stuff out!

its been all of a week since i applied the shine on package... still looked great, but it was no longer slick, and it barley beaded water.... .. i dont really know wat to say other than, im trying it again soon, without the glaze.. i figure since that is carnuba based, it doesnt bead as well as synthetics like the ones in the sealant, i dont know why the durability ended up so bad for me.. yesterday i put on some nano seal on half of my hood, and poorboys EX-p on the rest of the car.. topped everything with collinite 845. and the hood looks awesome, cant tell any difference from either side, so the sealant is nice when topped with sometihng like collinite.. i think its just the glaze coat im not crazy about... the sealant gives typical awesome reflections, my car once again looks great... collinite should keep it that way for a while.. i figured id update this before someone bought the shine on package due to what they read here and was dissapointed.. because beading on the glaze was downright dissapointing.

by the way.. my girlfriend never notices anthing i do to my paint.. all waxes and sealants are created equal to her, and she has commented on it several times on how "rediculously shiny and thick" it looks.. "like a pearl" ?? dont get that one, but ill take it... so yea, just thought id put that out there. this is the only time she has commented on my car since the first time i used meguiars ultimate quick wax over some megs #26, she commented on how dark it was..

:aww:That's very disappointing to hear. At least I got it for $10 off at Pep Boys. Had a coupon!:xyxthumbs

They are expensive IMO. The glass cleaner is okay, but not any better than Sprayway or Stoners. The grime destroyer will remove the bug and your wax, so it creates another job. I'm going to return them, like the bottle states for a full refund.

Cheers,

GREG

I disagree, Clearly Better Glass Cleaner can be used in the sun with no streaking. Try that with Sprayway or Stoners.

I use the Grime Destroyer during the wash, prior to claying and polishing. It does a great job at prepping the surface for polishing.

I also like the Hot Rod Detailer.

These are probably the only ones I'll use from the Surf City line.

I too like the Hot Rod Detailer. I like it better than FK435.

I don't use glass cleaner in full sun, so I guess my process works for me. Megs glass cleaner is cheaper then if doing windows in full sun are your process, then CBGC.

I tried the grime destroyer this weekend on my D.D. It had NEVER gotten an engine cleaning, and stuff like the trunk lip had never been detailed. Also used it inside the fuel filler door, and other neglected places.

For an OTC product (got it at Pep Boys) I was amazed. It's a bit thick to use the way I'd prefer, but I'll be buying it in the large bottle from now on. Not sure about trying the rest of the products yet.

I've been using the HR QD - very slick, arguably moreso than 425 - and the glass cleaner which I also like a lot. I'm just about to try the Grime Destroyer on my wife's car.

I finally found a Pep Boys around here (inland empire) that stocked Surf City. I got Grime Destroyer, Killer Chrome polish and the glass and wheel cleaners. Walked out $50 poorer, it took a lot of will power not to buy one of everything on the rack :) Not often you find boutique quality stuff OTC but I already have way too much stuff...

I've tried everything but the nano seal/glaze, but I'm picking some up this weekend. grime destroyer was almost too gel-ish for my tastes in the engine compartment, but beyond steel worked great. I love the beyond clay, caranuba wax, and detailer.
